I think that this is your problem. I have a friend who goes to a different university than me that has a slow internet connect, via ethernet, and he gets few search results and downloads slow. I would say that if you ethernet maxes out at 50kbs then that is the problem. I dont know much about routers and firewalls, but you can look around the threads using the seach button at the top of the screen.
