Low speed but no bandwidth left

Although the total amount of trafffic going through Xolox is low, maybe 20kps, all my bandwidth seems to be used up, e.g. internet explorer is slowed right down, as are other applications.

Any ideas where all my band width is going?

(cable modem, 512MB ram, 1.6GHz processor etc)

Hello again!

This subject has been discussed a few times in the past in this forum. You can try some different search terms to find relevant posts, but here are a couple of links.

Read this: Defrag
And this: Arguing

not the memory, xp?

thanx for the tips but the thing is, when the internet is slowed down, it doesn't appear to be a memory problem as I can run all the memory-intensive applications I like.

ANd I defraged yesterday

In fact I just installed memturbo just to be sure and... still slow internet (I have 512megs! anyway)

Also, for the record, at work, the pc has 128megs, runs at 1.4ghz and with that machine I get nice download speeds and no internet slow down?

Only difference I can think of is that maybe XP does't like Xolox? The internet slow down occurs on the xp machine not the win98 machine...

Any thoughts?

u didnt mention that you have XP. there is deffinately a problem with xolox if u use XP and i think that there is more of a discussion going on in the zeropaid forum on it

oh xp!

thanx xolox_girl - so xp's the culprit huh?

Well I had looked into that and been hoping that I was going to be one of the lucky XP-ers :(

I run XP home, and never get and crashes or lock ups, just slow downloads and no bandwidth! (any idea if things are better with XP pro?)

Maybe it's time for a dual boot system....
