How do I download a movie and copy to VHS or DVD I am using a Mac. I want to down load a movie and copie it to a VHS tape or DVD. How can I do this? |
Downloading is easy. Search for the video download it - for larger files you should have at least ADSL or it needs ages. To copy it on a tape. I didnīt try it but it should work with a TV card. Connect your PC to the video (via the card), play the movie and record it while playing, as on TV. ;) For DVDs you need a DVD burner, without it it isnīt possible to make a DVD. And of course you need burning software which supports DVD burning (all newer/better ones should do it). Morgwen |
The first problem is I have down loaded two movies on in mpg and one in avi. I have not been able to get eatherto play on my Mac. I have a Mac G5 dual 2 Gig, with 2 Meg of ram and the Formac TVR. I have the TVR connected to a VCR and am trying to record a movie that I recorded and stored on my hard disk from a DVD. When I try to record to the VCR I do not seem to get picture or sound to the VCR. I are RCA jacks connected to the TVR and VCR. As best I can tell they are connected correctly. I can play a video tape to the computer screen through the TVR so I know the RCA jacks a right from the VCR to the TVR. I have the RCA jacks going from the TVR to the VCR also. I have a TV connected to the VCR and can get a pre-recorded VCR movie to play on the TV. The problem seems to be that I am not getting any signal from the TVR to the VCR. This is really two problems; One being able to play movies that I download. Second, how to record them. |

For the other problem, you should ask the manufacturer of the video recorder, hotline or something like this. Morgwen |
Yes, I down loaded the files, DivX and it made no difference. |
I downloaded "Scary Movie" in the mov format and it played. But it was only a movie preview. I played it twice and the first time QT quit. |
A few more links (thanks Stief :) ): http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...group_id=62947 http://docs.info.apple.com/article2.html?artnum=60366 Download and install ALL... you will need them earlier or later... Morgwen |
Do I just put them all in the same folder? Also when I try to open a movie does the computer look for the codecs until finds on that it can use and open the movie? |

Nice equipment you have there BAtoload, and Morgwen sure went to a lot of work to help you. For installing the stuff, just follow the directions that come with the installers (I'm assuming you are using Panther). If you are on OS 9, the Indeo codecs are just dropped on the system folder, but if no dialogue pops up, drag them to the extensions folder and QT will find them. For help with your other questions, try the Apple G5, Panther or QT forums at http://discussions.info.apple.com. The iMovie forum gets quite detailed about hardware connections. |
Forums are a great resource, it's amazing how much some of the people out there know. and are will to help. |
just read of another player on MacInTouch that can handle some of the extras on a DVD http://player.interactual.com/help/s...icles/0144.asp |
There is a third solution... you can convert your files to VCD or SVCD format (for example .mpg) and can burn it to normal CDs (with a normal burner). All newer DVD players should be able to play them -look in your description. Morgwen |
I had thought about burning them to CDs. How do I convert them to VCD OR SVCD. How many CDs would a two hour movie take and will they play back on most CD players that are connected to TVs? |

Finally I found this here: http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/arch...les_to_vcd.cfm The software is FREE. :) Morgwen |
I have toast to burn to CD. What program would I need to comvert the movie? |
I also have a Formac TVR attached to my computer. I recorded a DVD, "Open Range". I can play it back on my computer but have not figured how to record it to a VCR yet. It would be just as good to record it to CDs, maybe better because it would remain digital. |

The movies that I have recorded off some rented DVDs have an extension "DV". Is that their format? I have a Formac TVR that is a digital to analog and bac converter. I have it connected to a VCR and have tried to copy the movies to the VCR, however the TVR is not putting out a signal to the VCR. |
how do you get music off of limewire to cd burner:confused: |

Will I only need to install the first program on the page you just posted? The others just seem to be adding subtitles. |

Here are more codecs: http://sub.divx.ee/?download=codec Number 4 should be enough, if not look which codecs are missing and add them. Or do mean this link? http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/arch...les_to_vcd.cfm Morgwen |
I can us a DVD player to play a movie from a DVD that I have rented. I connect the DVD player to a Formac TVR and the TVR is connected to my G5. I play the movie and record it to my hard drive. It is recorded to my hard drive in a DV format. Now I can play the movie back using QT and watch it on my computer monitor. I can also play the movie and record it to a VCR. How can I record the movie to CD's using my Superdrive in my computer? Or how can I record the movie to DVD's using my Superdrive in my computer? |

For recording movies on a DVD you need a DVD burner! Morgwen |
A SuperDrive is an internal all in one DVD/CD reader-burner, for the non-Mac advisors here. To make VCDs you need to convert the DVD file to the required format. I am speaking from theory here not having done it myself. Try the following it seems to be recommended by most people who are doing it: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12844 As a personal note, there is only a certain level at which this is worth the trouble. Consider how much you are paying for your bandwidth, how long the DL takes (the files are large), even if it is successful, the uncertainty of the quality (much of it quite bad), the time it takes to convert and burn files to the CDs (most of a day) to get a really second rate copy of a DVD you can buy for a few dollars. Music is a different matter. the files are small, quick to download, mostly good quality and useful as they stand without conversion. I've made a note to return to movies when the technology actually makes the results worth while. Apple is working on a movie successor to the iPod. Maybe then s:-) |
