Burning CDs to play on car stereo

I am to the point of postal aggrivation. I have downloaded some songs and placed them on a cd-r disk and they play just fine on my computer but when I try to play them in my car there's nothing. I tried mp3 files and .wav files and still nothing. I have no idea what else to do. Please help me. Also, I'm sort of new to this, so please don't use too technical of terms.
