I found the best way to take it is to shut the damn firewall OFF. Works for me.

I agree just turn it off and If I'm correct I believe it only blocks connections one way, outward not inward.

Oddly enough all my internet programs are added as exceptions on the Windows Firewall. But, since installing it, i don't get hacked ... as much.

I have McAfee Personal Firewall, which is wonderful, no "in loco parentis" behavior. McAfee advises turning off SP2, and even has a neat little demo on how to do this.

It seems a little silly to dl & install something which doesn't play nicely with the rest of the software, then have to turn it off. So I never installed it. So far I haven't been successfully hacked. McAfee is set to "tight security", and limewire gets through, np.:D

buddah,

If LimeWire keeps restarting on it's own, then it's prolly a virus. See this thread: WARNING: Viruses on network you should be aware of!. See point (4), and then check out the link to Norbies World at the bottom of the page.

Been there done that, had limewire hiccupping restart all over the place until I unpluged my dsl modem (not necessarily necessary, but I figured if the nasties were trying to phone home to add more badstuff -see Wikipdeia for all the tech terms :shoot: I wasn't going to make it ez), and purged W32.Alcra.B. Should be running peer guardian, and scan any file b4 opening it (though NAV has caught many in mid download).
