AVI Downloads.

If launching, how is it that I can view some AVI downloads but others respond '.....no filters to render stream' (para-quote) ?.
Do I need to upgrade my Windows Media Player ?

DIVX

I use DIVX to view incomplete .avi files to check file is ok and in my language... It will view .avi files provided they are not corrupted.

Nimoīs codec pack also installs divx. That is the reason why you can view avi files after the installation. ;)

If you donīt want to install a beta. You can try the ACE Mega codec pack:

http://www.codec-download.com/module...name=Downloads

Here you can find all needed codecs, but you donīt need to install all of them the codec packs install the most of them. The other codecs you should only install when needed.

VLC is a player and needs ALSO codecs.

VLC needs codecs ?

I doubt it
I have a fresh installed XP and NO codec packs installed.
Win media player can't hardly play anyhing VLC plays allmost everything !

No codecs for me, just VLC
:D

BTW, for the few things VLC can't play I use Zoom Player

Yes without codecs the video canīt be watched. ;)

What you mean is VLC donīt need so many additional codecs... :p

Almost donīt mean all, or do I miss anything? :)

If you would install the codecs which VLC donīt have you wouldnīt need the zoom player, the day will come that you need a codec which isnīt supported by both players - will you download a third or more players than? I see no advantage to use two or more players while you can use one.

:o

Morg I guess youre right there about the codecs.
I tought I had read something somewhere about VLC not needing codecs.
But apparently it seems to install a few.

Ah well anyway I like VLC a lot and prefer to use it instead of Win Media player.
Zoomplayer looks nicer but can't open as much as VLC does (it does not preview partially downloaded files just like Win Media player)

VLC is not bad.

Install a codec pack and both players should be able to play all videos, and then choose the one you like more. :)
