Dual Modems for faster downloads

For those of us that can't upgrade our internet connection to broadband from dialup, is their support in Limewire or Windows XP for two modems on two separate lines to speed up downloads?

I'm not entirely sure, but I don't think that it is possible. Two modems can be installed if you have a free PCI slot. Although I think you can only use one at a time due to conflicting COM ports. Sorry, but I think that you are out of luck.

You can change the COM port... But software can only use one of the connections, Not both. Take flashget for example
www.flashget.com
It has a dialog where you select the connection you want (So does IE) and the program will use that connection, regardless of whats connected.

Hope i helped clear this up.

NOTHING... NOTHING... Nothing is going to increase the size of your pipe that does not involve using a bigger pipe.

Bandwidth is something that represents CAPACITY...

I hate to use the crude 'plumbing' analogies when discussing electronics and Communication systems, but...

Your ISP is NOT going to let you get away with going to anything above your contracted bandwidth...
No matter what simple steps you take to defeat the rather lame limit on most 56k Modems, you are still not going to go any "faster"...

You can only push so much water through a hose of a given diameter...
You can only push so much data through a given "diameter" of bandwidth.

And, no... I will certainly not discuss further, in these forums, those things that can be done to 56K Modems... So don't ask... HA HA HA...

p.s. Please do not think for one moment that I am not completely in sympathy with the vast majority of people on this planet who are forced to use 56K Modems as there only choice.

And, if you are using a 56K Modem, than it is up to you to use intelligent operating practices...

This means:

No 'Browsing' by others of your shared files

1 or 2 DownLoads at a time... No More and only 1 at a time is the most sensible !

No UpLoad Queueing allowed

1 UpLoad at a time

1 or 2 searches running at any one time, and then stopped when D/Ling or U/Ling

Maintain the absolute MINIMUM number of pending DownLoads

------------

Everything that you do that requires 'use' of your available bandwidth is going to increase the time it takes to DownLoad or UpLoad a file...........
And, logically, the longer the time period you spend in trying to transfer a file, the greater the chances of an interruption or failure !
Fastest is best...
