I am new to the forum but I need to know how to change (rename) song and artist information. I want to keep all music in an orderly fashion and cannot with the way they are downloaded with wrong title/artist information. Can anyone help ? Thanks, Rick

You can rename the file, but you can also change the song information (album, year. etc). In your music player, look for "edit tag".

Even if you esit the tag, you should also rename the file, to prevent other users from confusion.

Great when I tried to edit my post I neglected to view it and I see I wiped it out...

Oh well I suppose it wasn't really a LimeWire issue anyway.
I moved on to an mp3 forum to find answers.

My problem was when changing filenames or adding to the ID tag the file would no longer play.

Anyhoo, just thought I'd pop back in, saw my post gone and thought I'd add a note.

Sorry...

There has been an issue found where changing the id tags within LW will affect WMP's ability to play the file. It seems to be a bug between wmp & LW & doesn't seem to affect other mp3 players. Let's face it, there's much better players around than WMP! lol

Default Renaming songs/artist

Go to Maniactools.com and download two programs for a free 30 day trial. Then buy them. You won't be disappointed in their performance.

MP3 Tag Editor-Often the tags contain the correct info regardless of the odd names you may have down loaded. After editing all the tags, if necessary, this program has the ability to bulk rename your titles using your preference and the info in the tag. For $24.95 it is a bargin and quick.

AUDIO CONVERTER-Converts WMA files (and others) to MP3. Simple and easy to use. Again, for $24.95, save yourself time and effort by using these well conceived programs to do exactly what you are trying to do.

I got a copy of mp3tag v.2.31 from Tucows, examined the tag on the malfunctioning mp3, saved the file then it played fine. There may have just been too much data in the tag or too long of file name. Guess I'll mark em all read only and see if that helps any. Prolly not though. I don't know if there is a difference between the ID3v1 and ID3v2 tag and if it was written in one format and Limewire adds to it in another if that caused the problem. I guess they are just fragile files.
I'll just always make copies of my favorite ones and save em in a safe location.

I wasn't very kind too all my albums in my younger days, now they don't sell record players, I don't think anyway. So at least the mp3s I got of the albums I own are good enough for me as long as I can keep those playing.

And on the media players... I only use WMP because RealPlayer is adware and WinAmp takes too long to load. Though do like all the features in winamp and use it often.

Especially for watching the simpsons on Shoutcast.

I figured it would be easier to modify the tag using LimeWire but guess I really don't need to 'cause I know what the file is and who it is.

And if you think that's confusing you should hear what I was thinking...

All's well that ends in the well.

Thanks for the Input.

Sorry this reply took so long. Family medical problems.

Check out this site if you are interested in record players

They are pricey but have quite a selection. My wife received a bare bones (turn table only) as a gift so she could play her 78 collection. Nice quality but no bells or whistles on this model.
