playing the download hi there without sounding too stupid, i'm new to all this downloading which is why after nearly one week of attempting too i finally succeeded with a little help from my son. Only to find the blessed thing won't play!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! frustrated ?????????????? you bet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOW THEN I keep getting the following message displayed - cannot play the file maybe corrupt , format not supported the film displays divx(1).avi !!! I've downloaded divx player and still nothing i'm at my wits end as the film was supposed to be a stocking filler for the wife. any help or suggestions would be much appreciated jason |
Try downlding VLC (has in-built codecs.) If the file won't play with VLC then chances are you got a hold of a corrupt file. You may need to try again. Try previewing the file whilst dwnlding with LW so you can know if the file is ok or not. But to peview the file it must have at least a few % already dwnlded, the more the better. eg: 1% of a 60 min video file will be about 36 secs. 5 % would be 3 mins. For a movie it should be over 500 MB in size or else it may be fake or poor quality. If you'er dwnlding recent release material, beware of T1 & T3 sources. playing the download hi again download now playing ok but am i able to burn the download thru vlc as it isn't recognised in w.media player or realplayer ??? the other thing is !! does the download have to be able to play in eg w.media in order for it too be burned to be watched on normal tv??? thanx jason (speak to you soon) |
Nope and nope. VLC doesn't support burning features like WMP and Real do (all the better if you ask me. The reason why WMP and Real are such high-risk players is because their respective developers tried to put too many functions in their products). However, you can (and you should) get a Burning application. Nero is kind of the standard burning application destined for MS Windows. I don't think that they give away free copies of it (maybe you can find a demo somewhere but I don't really think so) so you're gonna haveta buy it or find another burning software that is good enough and is free. |
burning the download hi there followed your suggestion and got hold of nero smartsuite6.3.1.20f and the d/l plays just as well through the showtime as it does through vlc however when i burned it through nero the video playback was twice the speed whilst the audio remained "normal" which is how it plays when through wm and real. Is this to do with the files codec, hard drive acceleration or is there something quite simple that i am missing or failing to do any suggestions mush appreciated thanx jason |
Have you checked for any updates for your Nero? It sounds like a frame-rate issue. If so it could be for a no. of reasons. Are you sure it was the standard format that your dvd player uses? (ie: PAL/NTSC/SECAM - which use different frame rates.) Is your player compatible with more than one format? In my country all players are made to be compatible with them all. Some have switches/buttons/menu options on them so you can switch over to the other format. Did you try playing the disk on your computer? Some people change the frame-rate as a means of helping to compress the file. Did you burn it to cd/dvd? |
help how do i post on here and how do i download to burn |
... Well pikachu, since you posted already then I figure you don't have a problem with that anymore. As for downloading to burn, you first must get a hold of a P2P application. If you already have one, then post back with the info. |
just to let you know how I've got on!!!!!!!! once downloaded, we were able to play thru vlc ! as suggested i got nero, which didn't really do the business until just messing around realised that the d/l i was trying to burn wasn't in a recognised format for dvd (has to convert .avi/xvid into vso/fob etc.. format) SO using the nero on one hand and another program on the other hand i was able to re-code the d/l and then burn it thru onto a dvd. so just to say thanks for all the prompts and help along the way!! jason |
