Transfering music to an iPod.

thanks for the reply Harty...not sure I understood your answer though...I have the songs in a Limewire Library...my problem is getting them saved in some file...then getting them transfered to my iPod library.
I go to shared files...then click "open as" ...name the file with in MY Music directory ...limewirw1 for example...click OK...when I try to reopen the directory there is no limewire file.
Got any thoughts
thanks again
Paul

There's a no. of ways you can get the songs into iTunes library.
* A 1st iTunes File>Add to Library... & select the songs to add. Hold SHIFT key for selecting multiple songs.
* B Drag & drop the songs onto iTunes. This can be via your Saved Files or Shared folders or directly via LW's Library window.
* C Create a Playlist within LW. Save it with a unique name & as an m3u file. Then import that playlist into iTunes. Then go to iTunes menu >Advanced>Consolidate Library. This will copy the actual files to iTunes own library folders.

* A The most obvious way to add files to your iTunes Music Folder directly is via using the Control & O keys. Hold down the SHIFT key to select more than one file at once; the example shows how to add via the Add control & select multiple files at one time.

* B 1. You can select Saved Files folder in LW & press Expore button & the folder will open up for you. Then you can drag & drop songs from there to iTunes. Select multiple files at once by holding down the SHIFT key as you select them.

* B 2. Whilst you can drag & drop songs from the desktop to iTunes, you can also drag & drop them directly from LW's Library window.

Unless somebody wishes to correct me, Adding a folder to iTunes also requires consolidation.

Oh & just in regard to saving Playlists within LW.

Point 3 is how you add your songs to the playlist. When you decide to save the playlist (point 7) yo ucan save it as a m3u playlist file. This file can be opened by iTunes, Winamp & most likely most other players that can import m3u playlist files. (Likewise LW can import a Winamp playlist file.)

Try Red Chair Anapod for Ipod. It works great and is very easy to use, just drag and drop.

Deleting Songs once on mini Ipod

Does anyone have an easy way to delete or remove songs once they have been loaded on to a mini Ipod? I took them out of my library (I think) by clicking on CLEAR becuse my son and I share a playlist. So, either I need to create two playlists (which I don't know how to do) or learn to remove songs that on or the other of us does not want. I am afraid if I plug in his ipod to the computer now, and the songs are not on the list, it'll clear them all off of his ipod. Too confusing? HELP??

iPod Forum (click on link) is a worthwhile place for both Windows, Mac & Linux users of iPod to check out. There's a forum, freeware available to help you, etc. Check it out!

ucats it sounds like you need to manually add & remove songs from your iPod. 'Manually Manage Songs & Playlists.' Did you see the iPod Tutorial I think Lessons 4 & 6 might help you to understand how to overcome your issue.

I sympathise with this poster as I have a similar query. I am new to LW - so much superior to Kazaa. What's the easiest way to load files into my mp3 player. On Kazaa you just made up a playlist connected the mp3 player to your pc rt clicked each track and it loaded straight in. I have the paid for version of Nero so wondering should I transfer my LW downloaded files to there. Although not sure how to do that.

Lord of the Rings March 15th, 2005 05:45 PM

If you're using Nero as your main player then see: Burning an audio CD from your MP3's which will explain how to get the files to Nero. As for any other type of portable mp3 player, read the manual. hahaha I don't know why you're posting here by the way. Why don't you get iTunes to do your playback. A playlist you must not forget is simply a reference to the songs, so if you move the original location of the songs then that playlist will become unusable. QCD (click on link) is another decent player with in-built codecs & plays ALL music types & is free!

Hollypear March 16th, 2005 03:56 PM

Sorry if I posted in the wrong place just thought my query was similar!!! Read the manual - bought my mp3 player in Tenerife only to find when I got back to Scotland could have got it for 1/4 of the price and the manual is written in gobbledegook. Thanks for the advice on itunes. I thought it was for rich ipod owners so I have downloaded it now.

ipod transfer

Before you all snap at me and say 'read the past posts!!!', I've read them all and followed the instructions. I still can't figure this out.

My Limewire files are in itunes as a shared folder. My problem is I cannot drag them to a playlist or to the main library or to the ipod icon. They do not move like songs in the main library. I know other people are having this problem. I've tried everything I can think of...can someone please help?? I just got the ipod and want to be able to upload my songs!!

Follow direction no. 1 & Add them to your library using the control & O keys & holding down the SHIFT key for multiple selections. This will add the music files directly! The LW list as refered is simply a reference to the files ok! It's a playlist to files that don't exist within LW's library. So follow direction 1 or follow the other suggestions. Hope this is of some help. Unfortunately, the process for adding songs to iTunes library for windows has some significant differences to those of mac. For mac the process is straight forward but for windows is a little more stubborn! So follow those directions on page one! ;)

limewire - itunes - ipod

****, so many different ways...
this defs works for em but.
now have itunes and limewire open small enough to fit both on screen and from the limewire library highlight and drag the songs over to you itunes library. you dont have to but i have auto update on my ipod so i dont have to manually transfer songs over. does it when you plug in you pod, if not already plugged in.
if it is set to manual transfer highlight the ones you want to go to you pod and drag them to the pods library. should work... good luck..........

Manual editing of your LW playlists is answered earlier in this thread ... page 1 I think!

See the iPod tutorial & it's all there for you!

finding ****

Aileas

open your options and go to the SAVING tab. this shows where your files are being saved...
or you can do a search for a file you know is in the file where they are being saved.

its easier to highlight and drag the files over to iTunes or not have limewire as your downloaded files player and it should go to your prefered player.... whether it be itunes, media player, quicktime, whatever...

hope this helps

Use manual settings as below (open this settings window by pressing iPod button on bottom right side of iTunes whilst iPod is connected.) Press OK button. Then drag songs from Library or an entire playlist to the iPod icon. To delete individual songs from iPod, select & press delete key.
