Virus Taken Control Of Lw Help

Please help. LW is out of control. keeps comming up by itself.
Everytime i close it it opens all by itself.

I have run Virus software/ ADware software to no avail. Have uninstalled/ reinstalled from correct LW link and it still opens by itself.

It has a Uploads Folder in the library that looks like it is trying to upload. But i am not connected .
I really enjoy the LW but i need help to figure out how to fix this problem will have to uninstall till i get an answer.
Thanks

dose it just keep coming up every time you start the computer? like you start the computer ,LW pops up , you close it and you don t see it agen till you turn off and then start up the computer agen? if that is the case you just have it set wrong and you have no virus problems. if it just keeps bombarding you agen and agen with itself after you try to close it many times ,you prolly do have a virus, or you have a "bad" copy of lime wire (if you downloaded it from a scam/spoof site or via p2p this could be your problem.

Let me guess... you can't access regedit or msconfig either? If so, you probably have the same worm I got on June 20th. It's a nasty little thing called Alcar.a and as of last night there is an Alcar.b too. It comes in through Limewire (and other p2ps) hides all it's files and entries messes up regedit and msconfigs and changes your Limewire settings. Look in your options. I bet you'll find that it has added your whole "My Documents" folder as a shared folder. It's a backdoor and is related to the spybot worm.

This nasty little thing is hard to get rid of. I fought with it for almost a week and hours on end. Finally had to uninstall Norton systemworks, install Panda antivirus and that picked it up. It only cleaned some of the files. Then I had to run Adaware and that cleaned some of the rest. Then I had to restart in safe mode and edit the registry entries and an exe program the worm hides on ya!

I tell ya... I'm scared to re install LImewire right now. And tis not just limewire... I'd feel the same with any p2p. BUT, I will because I like it and it's always risky when you download stuff. I did install a program called worm guard though along with my other security measures. Oh yeah... adaware has had some critical updates the last 12 hours that includes more of this virus/worm (they're calling it a worm but it seems more like a trojan to me).

LimeWire is not at fault here. It doesn't have anything to do with P2P at all. Just ask yourself who's responsible if you download "virus" and execute it.

I wasn't saying limewire is at fault at all. Sorry if you misunderstood. I thought I pretty much stated that. It is just a vehicle like any p2 p program and what you download is always a risk.

what file did you download and execute to gain this virus?

ukbobboy01 July 16th, 2005 04:06 AM

What file?

I could be wrong but I think the guys who got caught by this worm downloaded something containing an exe file.

I personally do not download exe's or anything else that can run or autorun from the P2P network, it is just too dangerous.
