However, the type of writeable media that you are trying to use may not be supported by your drive. Updating the firmware to the drive may solve the problem. Go to the manufacturers website to get the latest firmware updates. If that doesn't work you should try using only the media that you know that works with your drive. Most CD-R disks should.
