![]() Only the filter in preferences to ignore adult content, and I would have no idea how effective it is. Also be warned that many innocent sounding titles are not what they say and are in fact porn. This is probably not the best application to let your children loose on, so hide it for yourself! That said I have never found anything unsuitable for children myself without actively looking for it! |

![]() My other thought on this is that if your child is inteligent enough to be influenced by "unsuitable material", he/she is surely going to be able to dissable the preferences you have set in about 3 seconds flat. The keyword filter is excellent and I use it all the time, but only to cut down the number of items that come up in searches, ..... and as I said above, lots of stuff comes up, I gather, which is totally not what it says in the title! best of luck, and don't let them watch the news please ![]() |

![]() Christine3449 I would like to back up what Hobo has said and, as a parent myself of two grown up boys, add a couple of cautions of my own. First, LW does have an adult filter which excludes adult orientated material from your search but it cannot filter out files that have been deliberately given false names. Unfortunately, for us, the P2P community is awash with files that have been deliberately mis-named. An example of this is a young lady, like yourself, tried to recently download a blockbuster movie, she spent days downloading what she thought was this movie only to find out it was a porno film. She wrote to this forum thundering in self-righteous anger (which most of us laughed at). I later found out that this lady was the victim of a scam site, she had bought a two year membership enabling her to unlimited downloads, all she really got was a URL link to LW Basic and nothing else. I advised her to try and get her money back. This brings me to the question: when you installed LW on your PC what were you hoping to get? The reason I ask this because LW is not really suitable for anyone under 16, not that the software is bad, but you (or your children) may come across some very strange things, as an adult you can deal but children may have an adverse reaction. Remember that the P2P community consist of thousands of individual PCs and their owners, it is up to that individual what he shares with the rest of us. Because there is no central authority, no central server where downloads come from, you are at the whim of whatever an individual (no matter how strange) may want to share. Also remember, the internet can be dangerous but P2P can bring those dangers that much closer. Saying all that, P2P-ing can be a lot of fun for someone who has their wits about them, and I would recommend it for anyone keen to explore and search out hidden knowledge. However, it is not suitable for prudes, people with closed minds, the naïve or unsuspecting and certainly not suitable for those under 16. UK Bob |

![]() I got some tips im &* but im watched and all i do is download music and i have an IQ over 100 so im not going to ruin my mind with porno once did I REALLY regreted it 1.Are you and your family just going to donwload music? if so go to tools>options double click filter and block every movie extension (e.g .wmv <---exactly written) 2.If you are going to download movies try and avoid .wmv files as these are the ones that are usally porno's 3.When you or your children download a movie when it is at %1 right-click it and select preview and make sure the file is legit if not cancel right away 4.Tell your children about it that it can really ruin your mind. 5.And always check to see what your children are downloading once in a while 6.if you hear strange sounds react straight away Enjoy the p2p expirence Signed, the *^ year old asdfgh1224 filtered by me Last edited by asdfgh1224; August 14th, 2005 at 07:05 PM. |
