I had the same issue, uninstalled Norton's Internet Suite completely, including Live Update, which doesn't uninstall with the rest of the software, then downloaded Microsoft's Live OneCare, this cool software allows you to install it in up to three computer for the price of one!

It protects you puter against viruses, adware, trojans, etc. It also can be scheduled to backup and maintain your puter, and guess what? You can use it for 90 days before you decide if you keep it!

Please help. I am not sure if this virus came from Limewire, but my pc shuts down frequently, blinks in and out, runs sluggish and causes my anti-virus to not work properly. It seems to blink in and out most frequently while scanning. The reason I mentioned Limewire is 2 other users have had the exact same issue. The only place we go that is in common is Limewire. Any help would be sooooo appreciated.

Try an alternate virus scanner: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition

It might fix the virus without the same problems as you existing scanner.

Thank you for the reply, however, I have already tried that. The crazy thing is... the more I do (in regards to antivirus software / cks) the worse it gets. I even did a complete restore and it didn't help. I am not sure if a Windows restore is infact a real wipe. Do you happen to know?

Open Control Panel/Administrative Tools, there open Services, look for the entries Remote Procedure Call (RPC) and Remote Registry, double click the entry and go to the tab named Recovery, it the setting is "Restart the computer", change it to Take No Action, set the three fields like that.

If this doesn't fix your problem, you should check the CPU and power suply fans.

If you suspect a trojan or adware infected your computer, I will also recommend you to go to PC Tools - Essential tools for your PC and download PCDoctor, you can fix your computer with the trial.

System Restore can be effective, but if you are restoring from a point where the computer was already infected you will eventually experience the same thing.

I have another post going talking about limewire and my concrens with how alot of the programs on limewire are infected. I attempted to download a program and trend micro picked up on a trojan but it could not remove it I think it was called TROJ.VENDO any sug on how to get rid of this I have already tried spyware doctor, spybot s&d as well as AVG free is there anything else I can do computer perfomance has changed since this has happened I have also tried restoring from previous restore point as well as restore factory image but it didnt seem to help :bangh:

Hi ... McAfee does not have any signs about a virus, trojan, or malware with that name, if you have the file available you may want to go to McAfee - Antivirus Software and Intrusion Prevention Solutions and submit a sample, it may be a worm.

You can also try to run an on-line scanner, symantec or McAfee got the resource for free.

TROJ_VUNDO.AO - Description and solution it was vundo not vendo there is a pattern file for it but trend micro said something about it being imbedded in a file written to a disk or something along those lines and it was very hard to remove this. It recommended identifying the infected file and removing manually through the add files option in the quarantined files screen

AVG is total garbage.
This statement is also applicable to the great majority of 'popular' so-called protection apps.

I do not care what anyone thinks if they are opposed to my above comment.

It is only necessary to search for the 'real' statistics re: so-called success rates in both detection and elimination of 'malware' and 'viruses'.

ANYONE who elects to use AVG is deceiving themself if they believe one single report of results from a scan or alert.

I've been pretty happy with Kaspersky's (other than the learning curve to learn a new program)...

I refuse to run AVG free I found it crap had it on and then downloaded spyware doctor and it found and removed alot more now I run trend micro internet security pro and spyware doctor together and it seems to work well the only thing is trend micro has limewire classified as a dangerous site and wont let me download it I have to disable trend micro first and leave my aas hanging in the breeze to get it thses two together still is a long way from being protected though I still got a trojan in my pc

How about this? I downloaded a song, which turned out to be one I didn't want. Not sure it was even a song. I tried to delete, and can't. I keep getting the message I can't delete because it's running in another program. I'm getting a sick feeling...

It worked! By starting in safemode, I was able to delete it. And yes, it was the aformentioned new virus, my symantecs anitvirus program isolated it.

I am quite new at LimeWire and I'm trying to download some games for ps2. I think I've tried about 10 different torrents by now and every single one has a trojan horse.....or some infected files... it's getting pretty annoying :bangh: and I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong, or are there really that many bogus torrents:confused:

There are heaps of infected files available for download...torrents and files on the gnutella network.

Many program files that you search for within LW will be infected or not work because they're missing a key or missing some files. Always check the file with Bitzi before download.
How to use Bitzi

If you're searching for a file on a torrent site, always check the comments on the file...that's where you'll find out if the file's good or bad. If there are no comments on the file, I'd leave it alone:)

Sometimes it's just easier to buy the game.

I found that Limewire is really poor for programs one of the few Ive got to work really well is the *Read The Forum Rules*program very good but if you want to download games your best bet would be a private torrent download there was one I found that was still open but I found it to confusing you might be a bit more up on how to upload and all that sort of stuff you have bonus hours and you have to give back what you take by uploading a percentage of what you download it all sounds really cool but I just couldnt figure it out the torrent is rtshq.net if you can figure this out you can get alot of stuff good luck ;)
