Encryption password

Hi

New to this board and I think I looked in most places but alas age has gotten to me and I didn't find it

Anyway, does anyone know how to open a encrypted file when it asks for a password. I have used both winrar and winzip and tried what they asked me to do, but no results. I'm sure it's a simple answer One I just don't know. Thank you for any help in this matter. I am really getting crazy with this
