What to do?

Does anyone know what to do when a downloaded mp3 file in limewire, refuses to copy to i-tunes??

Is it an mp3 or an ogg file? iTunes will not play mp3Pro files. That's a format designed for very low bit-rate encoding of say between 60-120 kbps. I'll use a different player in that case. If i want to burn it, then my burner program should recognise it. If it doesn't then the file itself might be corrupt.

limewire to itunes

it's a mp3 file, with bitrate 128. i use a mac 10.3.9

i have had the same problem before, but then i just removed the letters æ, ø, å - and suddenly it worked fine. but not anymore...

there is no burning options in my limewire version. it's the basic one...

but thank you anyway, for your answer!

If I get a basic mp3 file that won't play in iTunes I try it with real player. If that works I scratch my head and think ...why did I do that ... if it doesn't work on iTunes I don't want it anyway ...unless it's something very rare and special.
There may be a way of getting it to copy to iTunes, but I have yet to work it out.

If it doesnt work in Real Player I trash it.

There's also Audion which is now free: http://www.panic.com/audion/download.html I find it generally plays what iTunes can't import or play. If not, then take Only A Hobo's last piece of advice. Though, I suppose you could also try VLC as well. There's times iTunes won't import when LW is too busy. There's times when iTunes won't import due to lack of id3 tags. So if it opens it Audion, add id3 tags to it to see if that helps.

LOTR I shall try Audion next time I get a problem ... If tunes wont load into iTunes if LW is too busy, I find they will however load manually immediately.

Likewise! I always check to make sure they've imported, also check their id3 tags with mp3 Rage (now called Media Rage which has better support for other formats such as ogg & m4a), & add tags if they don't have any. It also has a multiple tag option which is good for albumwrap files after extraction. Now if I can only open a file using Audion & there still seems no way iTunes will import it, then I'll use Audion to convert it to AIFF, then import it to iTunes & convert it to either apple lossless or high quality mp3/m4a depending on how important it is to me. (Since most if not almost all of what I downld is not available on CD, the quality may be lacking anyway so a further drop in quality by recompressing it to mp3 isn't so important for me. At least as an aiff file I can always reprocess it using an audio editor such as equalising.)

(BTW as a note Only A Hobo, check the Albumwrap sticky again. I found a OSX utility which seems to succeed with those files that albumwrap extractor can't. It's a multi-purpose extractor utility called Juice. (Just set in the prefs to only extract mp3's/mp4.) Unfortunately not all albumwrap files are wrapped with albumwrap so A.W. can't extract them.)
