zip files

The game files are all in zip format. Winzip can't unzip them. I get virus alerts from my Nortons, but when I disable this, I get a message stating that this exe file is out of date contact vendor. So what do I do? Thanks

Lord of the Rings October 20th, 2005 04:49 PM

Beware of them. They are probably viruses. See WARNING: Viruses on network you should be aware of!

You have Norton. It says you have a virus. You dissable Norton.

Jeeeezzzeee Why do you not believe Norton, that is what it is there for! and go to a shop and buy a clean game with no viuses and a guarantee!

Lord of Rings: Thank you for all your information. I called support so many times to ask them why these files were doing this and I even gave them the virus name and they just sent me to a web page to download yet another product which didn't work. I even told them that the zip files were all one size and no one answered me correctly. I ended up cancelling my "lifetime" subscription to this downloading service because I was so frustrated and decided to put a post on here to see if anyone could answer my questions. I'm new to all of this and support was no help, so I thank you.

Hobo: I little more tact would have been nice.

Good. Because the official LW does not offer lifetime anything. It sounds to me you got a hold of LW not from the official site. For future reference: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml is the official LW site. BTW happy to help! ;) :)

"I get virus alerts from my Nortons, but when I disable this"

was your remark which let me to abandon the tactful approach. If people use anti virus software, which then really must! There is no sense in ignoring it or dissabling it.

I wasn't greeted by very tactful remarks when I joined the forums either:)

The gnutella network is a P2P network for the exchange of files. It is not a free download service for movies, programmes or anything else the scam sites profess to sell. The following link explains a bit about the scams.

As for Zip files and .exe files. It is generally recommended that extreeme care be taken if downloading these files from any sourses which are not 100% trustworthy.

If yu decide to follow LOTR's link to the OFFICIAL Limewire site, welcome to Limewire!

Hobo

I have to agree with your approach to answering cch226 simply because when I read his original post it made my laugh. However, on reading his second post it is quite clear that he is the victim of a scam site and the support he was getting was totally bogus.

I think that cch226 is the proverbial lamb that has been led to slaughter; they took his money and gave him nothing but lies in return.

Cch226

You seem like a naïve newbie that got his LW basic via a scam site, I sincerely hope you get your money back now that you’ve cancelled your non-existent lifetime membership.

UK Bob

PS. You should keep a close eye on your credit card or bank statements because the scam site may start to charge you for fictitious purchases or monthly membership fees for your non-existent club.

Well Guys: I truly feel naive for succumbing....however, even on this forum site, there are adverts for "Get Free Music and all Legal" andddddddddd "100% Free and Legal Downloads." So it's hard when you don't know what is what to understand, so I thank you for your help. Now, one more quick question. I need to back up my current emails. I know where to find my address book, but emails is a different thing. I surely do appreciate this. Btw, it was mp3downloadHQ.com.

Lord of the Rings October 21st, 2005 08:55 AM

Thank you for responding with the site. They are listed here mp3downloadhq.com/ under the LW section: Known Scam Sites

We try to filter out the scam adverts, but new ones keep coming in. Some of the same sites have more than one address link.

Saving E-mails and Address Book

Cch226

Saving e-mails is one the most essential chores a PC user can ever do, especially if your PC is on it's last legs and you need to transfer your mail and address book to another PC.

Anyway I use "Outlook Express Email Saver" which is available from here:

http://www.mazepath.com/home.html

It has an auto backup facility which can be set for daily, weekly or monthly auto backups. Your backups can be password protected and, most importantly, it can backup to an external drive, like an Iomega Zip Drive or Pen Drive.

However, this software is not free, it has a free period, of 15 days or so, but the price is so small it is worth the cost.
