Do you have a decent player? Here's a list of some good ones (click on links):
1. dBpowerAMP, - 2. WinAmp, - 3. Quintessential (QCD), - 4. iTunes
* Good tagging tools: http://massid3lib.sourceforge.net/

You didn't say which gnutella program you're using. If you're using LW, you can use the media player but it's not super reliable if LW is very busy. Just select the song from the Library window -> Shared folder or Saved Files folder, & then press Launch button. You can also add to a playlist. See Playlists & how to create them (click on link)

If you're using Limewire (LW) & would prefer to use your own player instead, go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Player & uncheck the option & press apply. This won't take effect until next time you open LW. But after that, next time you launch a song, your default player will open & play the song. (To set default players, see Setting default audio program) I hope this answers your question. :)

then you are trying to listen a unknown codec that your player dont have a codec. You need to install a codec for your player to read the format correctly. the codec that not many player know is: Ogg, FLAC, Monkey, Lame.
