In need of a tip for Limewire Hello. I'm new to this forum. I have had limewire for a couple months. I have a question: Is it possible to remove the images, videos, documents and programs under the search type? I only want to use the Audio. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :) |
What's wrong with clicking on the Audio search tab? It only takes a single click. If you do one type of search, then next time it will return to the same type of search. Thus, you only need to click the Audio type search once in a session .... after you open LW. |
Actually, once I close out of it and reopen it, it returns to all file types. The reason I want to remove those other tabs is because I have a family member who has been downloading images that are not appropriate. I have chosen the option to block adult content but its still getting through. So I figured best way to avoid it is to completely get rid of those additional tabs if possible. Thanks. :) |
dalml77 The only way to keep LW and your family member safe, if you are a windows user, is to create a separate, password protected account and install LW there. UK Bob |
Thanks for the reply. :) Considering we both use the same computer and same Limewire program, I don't want to do that. Besides, I don't want the other person to know that I'm onto them and their image downloads. So I was just hoping to remove the other tabs since the Audio is what we downloaded LW for in the first place...and then tell the other person I was eliminating the "clutter". lol |
dalml77 If your family member is that determine to download "artistic" images then there is nothing you can really do. And, to be totally honest, you don't need LW to download pictures just your browser, so even if you could restrict LW to "Audio" only your family member would still be able to use the computer's browser. Keyword filter to stop downlds of jpg, etc. but as UKBob suggested, an account where they can't change the settings in case they realised you'd changed settings would be the go I suspect. Correct me if I'm wrong UKBob but can't you also do that in Control panel > Admin. Tools. How to use the Keyword Filter Edit: I didn't realise UKB had replied ... I was checking my windows. lol :D There is another way to stop downlding of images. You need to edit one of the LW files in the program folder. It specifies what types of files LW can downld. eg: I added .mpg & .mpeg so my iTunes on mac would automatically import video. Likewise file-types can be removed from the allowable downld types. |

Saying that, I will check when I get home to see if what your saying is true, I can't check on my work PC because the " IT policies" are tightly tied down. UK Bob |
What I was refering to was permissions. Permissions to change items in particular folders. If there's a set of preferences in a particular folder, but the user doesn't have system permission to access that folder, then they can't change the file in that folder. I don't know how it'd work with a preferences file. That's why I was asking. But perhaps if they can't access it then LW wouldn't be able to read the prefs file I don't know ... that's the risk I guess. But yes, folders can be made to be accessible to certain users. Only those with admin abilities would be able to set such things up. The exact permissions allowable I'm not sure about. eg: read but not write abilities would be ideal if applied to the youngster. You can do it on a mac that way. I haven't fully investigated it on windows. |
Thanks so much for the replies and the link on keywords. I will check into that. Yes, of course I realize that the family member can access other images via the internet. However, I don't want them doing it via LW. More chances of getting viruses and other nasty stuff. Besides, as I said it was only downloaded/installed for the audio purpose. I will look into the filetypes as well. Thanks again!! :) |
