Audio quality degraded

Occasional LW Basic user (4.0.8) suddenly and inexplicably lost library playback audio quality. Almost as if I were playing a tape at a very low speed, with a bit of static. Virtually atonal.
Nothing else on computer is malfunctioning.
Anyone recognizing the problem and kind enough to offer guidance may feel free to render a detailed fix suitable for someone not a sophisticated PC user.
Thnx in advance.

Had a similar problem with a library song,,, converted it back into a wave file onto desktop, then restarted program, set at "best Quality" & reversed into Mp3, problem gone, maybe help?

Thnx, Agnew, but your estimation of my PC skills is way high.
You're talking to a guy who really needs an all-purpose Fix It For Me button.
One thought: Would deleting LW and reinstalling be a valid option? If I did, would I lose everything in the library?

Does it play slow in other media players. If your playing it in the limewire player try playing in windows media player. the LW player isn't the best.

If you need help changing the default player click here: choosing a default media player

The problem could be with your audio card, possible fix here: Song playback too fast

Let us know if any of this helped:).

You may want to update your version of LW. The one your using is pretty old.

G'day CopyChopper,
I haven't enough experience with L.M to comment on the re-install option, but presume it depends on where you store (which folder) your L.M. Library is located, if in doubt, copy it elsewhere, like a new folder on your desktop.
Reconverting your songs isn't hard, I used a small, 1085kb free program called FreeCD to Mp3 Converter from Tudogs/audio section (free site after giving your web address) is very basic, & just remember to push the sliding "audio quality slider" in Options/OGG to the max (highest Quality) when changing your wave file back to Mp3, give it a go,,, u cann't make it any worse than it is, right?
If u wait a bit maybe an expert will come round with better advice,,, lots of good, clever, people round L.M.
Regards, Agnew

Ah, one more attempt to download latest LW software seems to have done the trick. Was one of my first fixit efforts, but didn't take.
Thnx to all kind enough to offer help to a near-total PC doofus.
