Help with a virus I got from limewire. Ok my computer started acting up after I got finished downloading a music video from limewire. I quickly deleted all limewires files just incase it might help. It made it worse. It is like I let it free. I scanned my computer with the virus scan and I think I found what I am looking for. But it wont let me delete it. It says something about a copywrite agreement? I didn't agree to anything about limewire giving me a virus I wont be able to delete it. HELP please! |
Limewire has installed virus Limewire installs spyware and viruses and stuff into your computer when you download it. I downloaded it from limewire.com. I went to delete it. I deleted every file that limewire had exept my music. I guess it thought I couldn't have my music if I didn't have limewire. So all my music was gone. Then the virus formed after deleting all the files. After deleting all the files it shatterd my mcaffe virus scan. litterly. I had an up to date mcaffe virus scan. When I deleted it it tore it up and stompt it into the ground. (another words i couldn't use it any more)(mcaffe keept popping up every like a thousand times saying that there are some files missing) I had to download it agian. Then I downloaded it agian and it said I have 3 infected files. Went to delete them. It said that there is a copy write law or agreement protecting the adware I found. (thats a virus that changed it's name so it would be detected as adware) Theres no way I can delete it. When you download limewire it gives you a virus. Simple is that. (THERE IS NO WAY YOU CAN PROVE DIFFRENT!!!) Delete or open the files that the virus that limewire installed it will then begian to forum. It will eat your RAM like a ******* peace of cake. |
You mean there is no way you can prove it. You said you were going to show proof before but I nor anyone else has seen it . You have no idea of what you are talking about. You downloaded a virus off of the Gnutella net and you are blaming LimeWire for what you did. There have been many others that have done the same as you and downloaded a virus from the net but they were smart enough to realize what they did and not blame LimeWire for there mistakes. I and several others on this forum can tell you how to get rid of of the virus you downloaded from the net but with your attitude I doubt any body will. The link below is to your previous post where you and your friend were going to supply your so called proof. When you get a little older and grow up come on back until then keep your thoughts to yourself because what you are posting is a Flat Out Lie http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...=&pagenumber=5 |
|
Dude. How can you show proof if your computer crashes when the virus strikes? No I didn't have a virus. I downloaded limewire. I only used limewire when I had it. I didn't ever go to any websites just limewire. Why is there a copyright thing on it? |
Can a mod please edit the subject or something? LimeWire does not install any kind of malware. If you get malware, it was because you did it by your own actions. Dont blame limewire on your own stupidity. |
btw I didn't mean to post a new topic the link you posted above was a accedent topic. I thought I was replying. But dude can you please be a bit more helpful my computer is acting like it's going some ****. When I scrool the mouse it keeps getting messed up and stuff. It is like it is freezing up but not really slow just moving at a increadble slow speed. But when I get the internet working fine it seems like it gets better. could it just be that I hardly ever shutdown my computer? |
I'm sorry, but I have to tell you that Limewire doesn't have stupidity-protection There are people/companys that continue to try and hurt the Gnutella-Network which Limewire and many other P2P-clients connect to. They come up with traps that "innocent" people like you tend to fall into. Instead of crying about Limewire installed a virus, you should rather search for threads that deal with your issue. P.S. If you had asked nicely for help on how to get rid of this virus, instead of blowing up and only reading what you wanted to hear, a lot of people here would have pointed you in the right direction. P.P.S. You are only digging a deaper hole by continuing this naive stupidity P.P.S. If you write an apology for your stupid behavior, maybe, just maybe someone will feel sorry for you and help |
Your computer has either a virus or is ****** up. Now, LW isn't the virus, so you either got it elsewhere or from an infected download. End of discussion. Use latest virus and spyware definitions and clean your computer. Ciao |
Why do you keep on with the calling people stupid(Do you know me?) btw I got rid of the virus. All I had to do was shutdown the computer go to safemode scan it and I was able to delete it. I have uptodate virus protection. (very expencive) But the computer just seemed to get worse after a delete them. I think there is something hidden that mcaffe isn't picking up. But I havent found protection better than what I have. For free atleast. |
McAffee sucks. Get a free alternative that is good such as Avast, AntiVir, ClamWin or AVG. I can't disrecommend Norton and McAffee enough, use a free alternative ASAP! |
The links below will take you to a couple of very good free AV programs highly rated by the experts. I have found AVG to be better than Avast but both are very good. http://free.grisoft.com/*******.php http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html The virus I believe you got can hide in allot of places on your computer. Go to the link below and post a Hijack This log there Norbie will be able to tell you if you have gotten rid of it. Just follow the instructions on the web page. http://www.norbiesworld.co.uk/Forums...ic/t=1295.html The reason they called you stupid is because of your refusal to believe that LimeWire did not give you the virus. Yo got the virus from DL and opening files that contained a virus or you already had it. Like I said before literally millions of people use LimeWire and do not get a virus from it. Do you really think LimeWire would be the most popular P2P software out there if it was a virus and was causing problems with peoples computers. You put way too much faith in your friend who doesn't know his head from a hole in the ground if he thought LimeWire was a virus or caused a virus. The link below will help educate you about viruses on the network I would suggest you read it. In the future you should probably do a Little research before making post and then defending them. Your post is what made you look stupid. When I told you it wasn't LimeWire that caused the virus you probably should have done a little research on the Internet instead of blindly believing your friend. That also made you look stupid or gullible hopefully you have learned something from this if you have then you are not stupid. If you haven't then you are stupid. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=41432 |
My choice is also AVG.. I havent personally tested AVAST.. although I did install it. it does look nice but.. i just disabled it for the lack of patience to learn another one. :) |
I can disrecommend Norton I used it for months, and it caused me nothing but trouble. It is the biggest resource hog on the market today (I think) + plus it didn't pick up everything it should Has anyone tried Trendmicro PC-Cillin. I'm thinking about trying it, since Panda (allthough a good antivirusprogram) is almost as big a resource hog as Norton. But I would like to know what other people say about it first. I have tried looking on the net for feedback, and have also tried writing them about it asking very specific questions and getting non-specific answers back. Allthough support answered fairly fast which is a big + in my book P.S. DKSK The reason I called you stupid was because every time your name was associated with a thread it was inconstructive. If you wise up and post a bit nicer + more relevant + specific you will get a lot of help here, while if you continue like you have done so far you will only have more people calling you stupid P.P.S. Antivirus doesn't have to be expensive to be good. And expensive most definently doesn't mean good |
Sleepless... honestly... all the big-name Anti-Virus software suck. Get AVG (VERY light weight and is the top recommendation on every guru's list of PC apps to have.) or AVAST... I havent tested this one out, but it seems pretty credible. Oh, and both are free.............which i should note that 95% of the best software out there are either free or open source. I have honestly never, in the past 4 years, had to spend a dime on commercial software. (Xcept for biz software that I am required to have for my job.) I can always get the equivalent or better open source or free version. |
Does it have heuratic scan I do a lot of questionable surfing on the net |
You mean heuristic analysis? In AVG it does. I dont know about AVAST, but I image it does too. You can also disable heurstic analysis if you wish... just check it out, im not here to sell it to you. ;) |
oops. you have to consider that it's 2.40 am here, so some spelling errors may occur. When I had it disabled and did a online scan it picked a lot of stuff up that Panda didn't After I enabled it every scan has been clean So it's a must for me. If I remember correctly PC-Cillin has it too and is very cheap edit : I stand corrected :o comparison chart 2006 |
One thing I do like about avast it will run in tandem with allot of other antiviruses right now I am testing Windows one care and running Avast in tandem with it. And yes it does have heuristic analysis. But I still prefer AVG while they both have never failed to pick up any viruses I have tested them with AVG has been able to repair more of the files than Avast. |
I think the virus ****** up my prompt for my windows Me. I don't know what happend. |
Remember what I told you about specific ? If you post more info someone might be able to help OS and other stuff on your comp what exactly this virus does what you have tried allready how your comp is f***** up now It is impossible for anyone to help if you don't also if you know the filesize of the virus it will help |
Re;p2pnetworm recently I had downloaded another p2p file sharing program(in which I won't name here) and was on the net about 2 hours when my curser started acting up and the machine started freezing up. My responce was to run Ad-Aware SE.This software said that it was a p2p worm and had it quarintined and deleted. one hour later,it crashed. After I rebooted and did a quick disk clean up everything seemed to get back to normal. But the next day(yesterday)I was installing an external drive, when I hit system restore the varmit came back, this time it took out my internet connection. All I can say is becareful what you down load........thanx Mad Hatter (796) |
Keep your downlds to files above 1 MB (1,000 KB) & that will at least keep you above the majority of pokses on the net. Not all, but at least above those that are looking for the newbie ignorants to stop their enthusiasm for using p2p. |
When you did the system restore you re installed the virus you need to turn system restore off and do another virus and spyware scan. Get rid of the virus then turn system restore back on. You will loose all of your restore points but it doesn't really matter they are infected anyway. |
I think it's still proteced. It says file found but not checked. I click on it it says it can't be removed. It did the same for mcaffe and AVG. |

AVG is atleast number 2 on the best anti-virus applications out there. I hardly give any software a number 1 because there is always room for improvment. |
I admit that the comparison chart was a bit slim, but I really tried searching for something useful, and that was the best I could find. I did write them an email telling them that a lot of useful information was missing from that test. cpu load, and how the heuristic scan worked when updated, also when there were other programs running as well. I actually got a non-automated response back the next day, saying that the email had been forwarded to the editorial staff, which worked on making changes to the magazine, but I should not expect any more responses since they were very busy. (or do not want to write a reply telling me how much they were paid to rank some higher than others) :D I just got a copy of one of the commersial virusprograms that I am going to test out ib the near future. Maybe there's some truth to it. Just maybe ;) |
Regarding your protected file DKSK try this tool Unlocker If that doesn't work. then try reading this http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=41432 with alot of other links in it. Disregard the first post since it has nothing to do with your problem, but some things in my answers will maybe help. Especially the things about the Command promth in both the first and second reply, if the unlocker doesn't work Also registry cleaners are very useful when tryind to get rid of stuff also the link I posted to a tread LOTR gathered might give you answers There is no need for you to go visit Daniweb since you don't post in detail. The only thing you will achieve is getting banned or no answer :D |
It is closed so I can't ask for help from him. LOTR's doesn't have any problem I have posted there. Ok let my stat my problem better. Things I have scanned my computer with- Ad-ware SE Plus Mcaffe AVG My Ad-ware SE Plus always finds spyware almost everyday thats nothing new and nothing to really worry about. I scan on Mcaffe and AVG to remove this so called virus I have. It finds a virus or some type of infection. But it just simply wont delete it. I have tryed scanning it in safe mode in attempt to delete the infection but I wont find it in safe mode. |
The unlocker download doesn't work for me. |
Go to Norbie's site at the link below he will help you. Follow the instructions on the page and install Hijack this. Copy and post the log to the topic page you open don't do anything until Norbie tells you what to do. http://www.norbiesworld.co.uk/Forums...ic/t=1295.html |
Then use command promth or DOS or whatever your system has, because it does have some kind of promth. On my computer (XP) I hold down (F8) and I get a list of choices. If I choose (Start up only using command-promth) windows will not start at all, so there will be no way that anything would be blocking you from deleting the file, because the makers of the viruses may be smart, but they won't suspect anyone going back to basics, unless it's a really really old virus :D Be very careful when using it, because deleting the wrong file usually is a bad thing In the threadlink I posted before there is a link to how the promth is used + some other instuctions. read both carefully if you haven't tried it before Also when cleaning spyware and viruses it often isn't enough to just use antivirus or antispyware. After deleting malware it is often good to use a registrycleaner as well. There is a link to a free one in that same thread don't reboot before using it. Instead use it right after doing your malware sweep |

That's exactly why I popped in - I have lost my broadband DSL (Com port 80 is the problem-apparently) I also downloaded a track from LW too - no fuss, in & out with my spoils - (Heaven & Hell - Lizzy - WOW) Sygate PF has disappeared & won't restore from progs either. I ran VGA,Spybot & Win Defender on XP pro. No DOD all Easter (I'm Dreaming of a White Easter). I am very not young, not pc savvy, but well stuffed. I attempted XP repair but got scared when confronted with BOOTFIX ooooer. I am being forced back into the real world, but have forgot my lines.......help pleeeeeeeeez :bangh: |
Daughter's Limewire usage...infectious. 2 out of 3 of our computers are now infected with some sort of nasty virus. The computers are inoperable even in safe mode. I cannot clean the computer without your help, what can I use to remove whatever was installed? What would you use? I've gotten a new keyboard for one computer to test if that would have been the problem. I've removed the jumpers as well to test. One computer is a laptop the other desktop. I can be 99% sure that it was a Limewire file that infected the computer, since the teen uses the site daily to download songs. My computer, that nobody is allowed to breathe on is completely in tact. Neopets is the only other website used frequently and downloads aren't part of the usage there. I'm thinking that I'll need a disk, since the computer won't respond to any user driven commands. Thanks in advance... |
