also the format seems to change to m3u when I try to uplpoad it to my site, whereas it is described in limewire as an mp3.

An M3U is a playlist file. Media players use those to play the MP3s.

Have you ever been able to upload?

I have never been able to upload music to my website personally from my computer, I did figure out that the m3u holds the file and I tried to upload that way, but it came out in mbs and not kbs and seemed to take forever..unfortunately my download was interrupted by a call[dialup] so now I have to start all over to see if this process works..so is there another way to convert this file to make it smaller?

Ignore M3U files altogether. They are not music, but are just text describing
where the real MP3 file is located.

Uploads of any music file will take a long time on dialup because it is so slow.
There's nothing you can do to speed it up, so you might as well start the
upload at bedtime and let the computer disconnect itself when done.

You could shrink the music files a bit more but the sound can suffer a serious
loss in quality and the process can be a bit confusing. Pkay around with it,
learn how it works and see if you can get a good sound.
