Converting Avi's into Playable movies

Hi, Ive been trying play avi files on windows in real player but NO platforms works!!! How could this problem be fixed????

Converting videos just to watch them on your PC can take time, and money if you require a premium program to do so.

If you want to watch an AVI you I suggest downloading Winamp (http://www.winamp.com <Click) when installing unselect all format extentions apart from AVI. Every time you open an AVI up (even double clicking a partial download in LW) it'll open it up in Winamp :)

What can be done to get the sound back in files that don't have it? I've downloaded some that will have perfect video but no audio. Is it my player or a bad file?

As recommended by FooloftheHill, get VLC & if there's no video then the file is stuffed. But if there is video then the problem was codecs. There's a Sticky at the top of this section which leads onto another in the Open Discussion section which gives codecs links. But with VLC player you don't need them anyway (it has codecs built in!) Here's what VLC can do http://www.videolan.org/vlc/features.html (ie: great for video or audio streaming such as radio, or playing DVD's, VCD's, playing music, playing video files, etc.)

It won't give me an English or American download.

Dont be to harsh on her, she was just trying to let LOTR know what was happening and if she was to edit the post each time, the members who have subscribed to the thread will not get any further email notifications....
