Pal or NTSC?
 

Does anyone know how to check if a file is PAL or NTSC?

Hope I am not being thick - quite new to this

AFAIK,....downloaded movie and video files are neither. It will be important if you plan to burn them to CD/DVD. If you have the NTSC system then you'll have to convert the file into the NTSC system. I have WinAvi converter and it offeres me to choose between PAL and NTSC, only Seacam (used in France) it doesn't offer.

But maybe others here can fill in the gaps.....:o

Whether a movie is in PAL or NTSC doesn't really matter unless you burn it as a DVD. I think that most converters have the options to change this. The players that you use on your computer will get info on the framerate from the file and play it accordingly.

You can see whether a video is PAL or NTSC by using G-Spot to check the file

It will not say if it PAL or NTSC but you will see framarate

PAL being between 23.68 and 25 (usually 23.68)

NTSC being closer to 30 (usually 29.96 if I remember correctly)

Personally I use QuickTime Player to tell me if it's pal or ntsc. To say it doesn't make any difference is not 100% right. Preferably you should try to get what you use. ntsc is 29.9x (30 frames/sec) whereas pal is 25. Normal screen size is ntsc 720 x 480 whereas pal is 720 x 575 pixels. So if you use a different format, it means converting both the frame rate & picture definition. That may mean dropping frames or (mind-block) which basically means extra work for rendering. But then again, the files you downld from gnutella are generally around VCD size (very roughly half normal dimensions.) The quality of the burn depends on the quality of the file you have, & the ability & settings of the converter or burner softw you use to convert it. (btw ntsc & pal also have different colour points. But you don't need to worry about that.) I don't even know if it was worth me posting this. lol :D I must be tired! :rolleyes:

Your burner program should be able to do that. What program are you using?
