Burn VLC media file to CD-R?

Hi,

Most of my movies/video are VLC media files, so it will open in that program. I tried to burn a few (not all at once), but I keep getting an error message saying there are either errors in the file (but they play fine) OR are missing burn rights. I was trying to burn with Windows Media Player.

I only want to burn to a CD, so they will play on my computer. I don't know if there is anything I can do to burn them, or if they are all a lost cause?

I am new at this sort of thing, so "Burning for Idiots" would be great! LOL

Thank you!

The VLC logo that you see with those files appears only because the VLC player has become your default player for those file types. The real types of video and/or movie files are most likely "avi" or "mpeg".

The "missing burn rights" stuff might occur due to the picky Windows media player.

I'd reckon to convert the files with an external converter and then try nto burn it again with the CD Burn function of the WMP.
A good program to convert those files ( I actually assume them to be .avi types) would be the Super Converter, a free program downloadable from here:

Convert the file(s) to VCD Compliant, that should do it.....

Download link?

Thanks for that info! I'll give it a try! Just one more thing though, what format should I convert to?

Thanks for your help!

Read my last sentence of my first post.......
In case you're running in trouble you could also convert them to mpeg...
But I have found out that using the VCD Compliant (or DVD in my case) save you the encoding time of the burning program (at least it saved it for me with Nero Express Burning)....

Maybe you have to check the file with G-Spot to see what codecs were used to compress it:
G-Spot (free)

What burnin g program are you using to burn them to DVD?

o4sho October 17th, 2006 11:11 PM

im using nero to try to burn them to dvd

foolofthehill October 17th, 2006 11:13 PM

Which version of Nero and what results do you get from G-Spot??
Please be as specific as possible to enable us to help you !

well with g-spot when i put in the video the stats says not an avi file...and i'm using nero ultra7 edition and the codecs says unknown

foolofthehill October 17th, 2006 11:22 PM

The information you're providing are not enough to enable me to help you...
Does G-Spot recognise the file as a media file? Does it show which codecs were used to compress the file? If so, which??

naw it does not recognize it...it says non avi file...and then codecs says n.a. and thats all..i don't understand

You can also check the media type with VLC directly. Go VLC>View>Stream and Media Info while the file is playing.....

Thanks so much for the reply but the link directs me to IBM and I cant see the download anywhere. Please Help Howard

foolofthehill November 16th, 2006 08:37 PM

Funny that you got redirected to IBM.....I tried the link and it worked just fine for me; of course after reading about the functions of the Super Converter, one has to go back to the company's main page and then go to the download page...

Anyways, here is a direct link to the download page....(scroll down to the bottom of the page to get to the download link):

Hi thanks I did manage to download it but I could not get it to convert my music file to cd. If I sent U a link to the file could U try to see if u can do it? Ihave U heard of the band Jars of Clay? Because That is what the music file Im trying to convert is.

foolofthehill November 16th, 2006 09:58 PM

Hmm, I've realized that you are talking about a music file....., before I thought it was a video file.

Maybe the Super converter ain't that good at converting music files, so it supports that function. But then you have to use MP3 as output format...

In case it won't do it either with the changed output format, you could try this free audio converter.....though I haven't tested this one yet:
SC Free Audio Converter 7.0.0.0
