Exclamation Sort of Simple Virus Removal for XP Users

Hi all. I will share a little trick I used several times to remove a virus, which will not remove in normal virus scan mode. I am quite sure it will not work every time, but it is an easy step to try, before fiddling with the registry or other such methods. Reminder, I used this method in XP. Copy down the exact location and name of the virus or bad file which would not be removed by the virus scanner. Then, restart the computer in "safe mode." If all goes well, the file should be able to be removed manually by right click and delete, or dragging to the recycle bin. Empty the recycle bin, and restart the computer back to the regular mode. Make sure the file is still deleted, and I would suggest running another virus scan, just to be sure. As I stated, it probably will not work every time, or with every virus, but it is a quick and easy first step to try.

I agree with your method for deleting simple viruses, a couple of years ago I would just simply delete compressed java viruses from my system. I found that my AV at the time could not delete them because they were inactive (compressed in a zip file) so I noted their location and then zapped them.

Sometimes the simple ways work best.
