You should never download music in .zip or .rar format. You should probably not download anything in those formats, but especially music, as there are MUCH safer formats available for download!

Hope this helps :o

P.S. Please read through the stickies in all of the subforums so that you don't acquire any more viruses.

Although this is an old thread (Feb 2007) you need to be put right on something, when you download something (anything) using the LW app you are not downloading from a safe server, as you believe, you are downloading from other P2P computer users from around the world.

And there is no one or organisation on Earth that can guarantee that all the PCs using the gnuttella network are virus free.

So when senior forum members advise junior members to keep away from zip, rar or other other type of compressed files you should understand that we know what we are talking about and that we have the knowledge and experience to back up what we say.

If you do not understand the advice being given then ask, but you should not give counter advice based on your own incomplete knowledge.

My computer doesn't need a clean up. I cleaned out the virus with AVG, which BTW identified the virus and the temp file it was on which came from the LW download. Anyway, it's been OK ever since, no problems. Just be careful to not download a zip file if you don't know the original source of the file.

Is a very bold statement, most people who know better or have learned from bitter experience run their AV at least once a month, just to be safe.

You know that LW, like any P2P app, is very disk intensive and so regularly HD cleaning is a must, e.g. deleting unneeded temp files, defragiging your HD, regularly running your anti-spyware and AV apps are all part of keeping your HD in good condition.

So to say your HD does not need cleaning is clearly a fallacy.
