Default "grub's Down !!!"

Yeah, I know.... Normal call is, "Grub's Up !!!"

You'll see... LATER !

Anyway... UBUNTU is a very nice Linux front...

For sure you can run XP and UBUNTU on the same, properly partitioned, HDD.
Just a 'dual-boot' thingy !
Normally UBUNTU loads first if you do not select Windoze instead... The time delay for you to decide and click on something is up to you... AFTER you find the place to set such configs !!!

Before you start, have a BIG search for any info as to just exactly why I started this reply talking about GRUB.
Especially a missing GRUB !!!!!!!!!
(Sure, I can lay it all out for you now, but... BUT, you won't learn it, OK ?
That last bit was for sure no insult... It's just that when you start getting deeper into Windoze you realize that there's a lot of "if it isn't hurtin' you ain't learnin' junk going on !)

Removal of UBUNTU without loss of Windoze and/or personal data requires some thinking about, beforehand, and a mega-dose of patience.

Installing UBUNTU is no big deal... BUT...

Before you do it, have ALL of your ISP / IP config info 'printed out in front of you'...
Be ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN to create an ADMINISTRATOR account...
(You will need this later to make any changes to configs or installs or...)

Also, be sure to think FIRST about just how big a partition you wish to create for UBUNTU...
Of course, using Paragon (in Windoze) or other apps you can always resize your partitions.

...er... Be sure to get Open Office !!!
