Hello!

How can I access the information inside a .zip file I have downloaded (macOSX).

Mac Zip
It allows you to zip and unzip files while running macintosh. It is marked 100% clean by softpedia so no need worry about getting an infection :)

Thanks for your reply but I still don't know how I can open the zip files I have downloaded. I can't open them with stuffit, or the usual media players.

You must download and then install the program MacZip 1.0.7cb1
