DVD Rip - What's the "Best Combination" of Software ?
 

What I think I really mean is, "What does aXXo use ?" ;)

Obviously a Windows question. :p I have my preferred ones for Mac OSX because the choice is much more limited. I know which ones work well for me and since I am doing frequent back ups for later viewing, the ones that almost always work I stick with. There's a few back up utilities just in case.
Best share outputs would probably be DivX or H.264 which seems to be a little better than the previous. But not everybody has H.264 codecs yet on their system.

Definitely go with x264. Sent you a PM about it as I'm not sure whether it's good or not.

What about AutoGK ?

Even AutoGK will not give you a perfect 1CD movie that are 120 minutes long. There is a reason why any good scene group will go towards a 2CD rip way before 120 minutes.

AutoGK is your best bet though if used, but I am telling you that you will max get aXXo quality.

You will get better quality using x264, but if you want to play them on a standalone DVD player then that isn't possible. Why the obsession with 1CD?

I presume A264 is another name for H264 right? Or a variation on it.

To be honest I don't know really if they are exactly the same, but it is the new trend and even scene groups have started using it more and more, especially for HD encodes (HDTV, BlueRay, HDDVD).

I have seen a file x264 with to audiotracks and multiple subtitle files inside the same ... mkv? container I think.

The quality is much better than XviD not only sizewise but also XviD seems to have slight problems with really dark scenes, x264 does not.

But for XviD to be as good as they can get you need several apps. I have seen guides (That I am not allowed to copy) that have many apps and scripts listed. And these things mentioned aren't easy to get hold of anyway. But the GordianKnot ripping pack would be first thing to get. Includes AutoGK, AVISynth and some other stuff.
