Seem to have lost all my files :-(

Hey,

Limewire seems to have deleted all my music files. At first when I downloaded it, it had no problem saving my files onto my hard disk. But then a month ago it was downloading music fine but not saving the files into their usual location, i.e. > documents > limewire > saved. In fact having run a search in vista it seems to have not saved the files into any location on the hard disk, as search could not detect any of them. I could play and listen to the files in limewire fine, but could only run them from the limewire applciation. Anyway, tonight I wanted to merge my limewire files with those previously downloaded so I opened limewire > tools > options > saving and noticed the location for saving files was c: > program files > limewire, however checking this folder again could not locate any of the music I downloaded. So I changed the save file location in limewire to its default location (where the other stuff was saved), closed the program, reopened it and now ALL my music stored in limewire has dissapeared. I still have the original downloads but not the stuff that would only save into limewire.

Does anyone know if it's possible to retrieve the lost files and how I could do this, or is it lost forever?

Cheers
Adz

You will find links to file recovery programs here:

It is very important to not download more stuff until you got back what you can, because new downloaded files may overwrite parts of the deleted ones.

I will suggest you to try inbuilt utilities in vista to recover your music files, I am not sure that it will recover them. But if you are still unable to recover them then you need data recovery software. Once I faced same situation when due to virus attack I lost my all music files, it was the collection of 5 years. I used Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery from here: Partition Recovery Software, provides partition recovery for lost Windows partition of FAT &amp NTFS partition , it also recover music files. I used demo version first and after using it I was very happy to see my all music files. I purchased the full version and saved my music files.

If you updated LimeWire & cannot find your Downloads

LW will not have deleted them, simply the new version changed locations, so you will have files in two locations most likely. (Only exception to this is if you used the LW program folder as a download location, then installing the update will have deleted them.)

Doing a simple computer search such as searching .mp3 or whichever file extension you normally download will show the various locations on your computer where such files exist. Try that also. :)
