Strange results like !setup

Has anyone noticed when using Xolox, I am using 1.13, that sometimes you get lots of results that say something like !setup.exe ? or !setup.zip.

I am using xolox 1.13 because I have a slow system and I am worried the newer versions will completely stall my pooter.

for example if I am searching for files with calculus, I always seem to find !setup_calculus.exe or something like that. and if I look up islam, then I will get files like !setup_islam.exe I cannot remember the exact filenames. but it seems like there are some people who are making up files according to the search results. They are all the same files but with a different filename. I do not want to download them because they could be trojan horses. anyone know about these files?

Thanks,

Porn Spam

The copycat files without the “!” are porn Spam. I have heard that the copycat files with the “!” have a virus, though they may just be porn Spam too.

Why not save a copy of your 1.13 version and give the new version a try (it works much better). If you don’t like XoloX 2.0 then you can go back to 1.13.

I agree most are just that and there is one siple thing to do with those files. Avoid downloading them. There are dialers that auto install when downloaded onto your computer. If it says "setup" then it should be avoided. Unless you want a porn dialer on your computer.

Only way is to go in and manually remove them from your program list if you do not wish to lose other data that has been downloaded. You can reset your computer to an earlier time or do a damaging recovery but you will LOSE EVERYTHING that you have downloaded that yoiu do want.

Don't touch any of these files with !!! in front of them. This is purely spam & often contain viruses.

aware

am i of those setup files with the !!!***.exe,.rar,.zip,and even html in them that are total BS files. personally this type of spam is firstly a waste of my bandwidth by searching for a game or something and finding a file that has that name, yet is far too small to be the true app. secondly, this goes against everything gnutella is about because the files are malicious nor true to form. I share only true files i know are virus free and are what the person who is searchin for wants as the vast majority of xolox users do im sure, but for the few idiots who think they are some awesome cracker by sharing bs files on their comp ....YOU PEOPLE ARE ABSOLUTELY CLUELESS AND NEED TO GET A LIFE BECAUSE YOUR WASTING YOUR TIME IF YOU THINK ANY1 IS STUPID ENOUGH TO ACTUALLY DOWNLOAD YOUR BS FILES YOU WANNA BE CODE CRACKING FOOLS.

Well put. I think those who are pushing this crap should be dragged for miles behind a truck and then beaten with their keyboard while we torch their hard drive.

I use Ad-aware to get rid of spyware, you could give it a try for the porn dialers. So far it has worked great for me. You can get it from download.com. I had that porn crap on my puter after visiting a site and I was able to get rid of it with the Ad-aware.
Hope this helps. ;)

I got Ad-Aware too and it is great but I still think we should do what I suggested to these people.
