download resumption not working/download # limit?/false availabilities?

Three questions/problems:

1) When I get a partial sometimes it will complete later, but most often not, even when I do a new search and see the file is available again.

2) With other programs (Morpheus, the old Napster, Kazaa), it makes a difference how many downloads/uploads are running at the same time. XoloX does not allow us to control uploads, and I have not found any mention of suggested maximum number of downloads in the FAQs?

3) About 80% of the time a search will tell me a file is available but after I click and transfer to my downloads -- it comes back as "searching, 0 busy, 0 buffer" indicating XoloX can not find that file -- yet if I go back and do a fresh search -- there it is still?

I am using DSL and Windows 98SE, and version 1.20 of XoloX. When I first downloaded and used XoloX it ran well and fast, but now getting a successful download is the exception. I close all other programs and let it run even through the night for days, and I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but still am experiencing poor performance?

Frustrated!

I'm having the same problem

You're not alone.......it's really flustrating when I have downloads stuck at 99% for days now. And I began getting error reports and that xolox was sorry and had to close and restart. so I reinstalled and those files are still just sitting there incomplete!

Same here!

I have exactly the same problem as u guys. Lot's of files to find, well, not as much as good old audiogalaxy, but apart from that. But, when trying to download, very, very few files ar downloading. I have Xolox running for days and days, but nobody with the file i'm looking for seems to be online for uploading......

WHAT IS THE SOLUTION, IF THE'RE IS ANY!!!!??

Greetings from The Netherlands

This is the exact problem I described in my thread a day ago, so count another one with the same problem. Searches turn up files that the download manager does not recognize. I strongly suspect it's a bug in communication, or the download manager is not being allocated enough resources for searching for files.

Ive notice the very same thing.
I search for a file and it shows up in the search display, I double click on it to download that file, only once did I ever get a file I selected to start downloading and even then it was to slow of a transfer rate to continue. So I aborted it.

This program has some features that I like. Being able to do multiple search and have it them stay open in a tab so I can come back to it later. Being able to type in a web adress and surf the web, thats cool.

There are some other feature I would like to see added. but if they are trying to keep it simple then thats cool.

But first of all lets get the program working up to par. I havent been satisfied at all.

Anyone know what the deal is ? Im not behind a firewall and I have high speed internet eccess.

I ll check back often to read the foruns, I would really like to see what this program has to offer.

In my other thread (suggestions forum) Antihedron said that this problem is because the searches returns information listing no longer available files. This is a problem with the Gnutella network itself, not something Xolox has direct control over. If I understand him correctly. I then asked why, if the downloads manager knows what files do and do not exist, aren't the search results truncated before being displayed using the same truncation method that keeps the false results off the downloads menu. So far no response on that question.

Hmm, let's wait for the answer then!!

Said pinging each search result before displaying it would slow the system down too much. Wich I realized once he said it was very obviously true. Pinging them to see if they're real only once you've decided to download them keeps the load much lighter. But sadly makes the search results unreliable. Seems a gnutella problem, not a xolox problem.

I have loads of files awaiting download that says buffer 0 etc, with AG it was soooo easy! this is just frustrating!!!

Wuppie August 15th, 2002 01:16 AM

Yeps, I miss the good old days of Audio-galaxy too!! such's a shame, were did all the AG users went 2?

Xolox looks good, but i'm using Kazaa-lite more often. Less search-results, but more downloads!!
