Search returns .EXE files -- DANGER!? Just today I started to see this... Among my search results almost every time is an APPLICATION ! <my search string>.EXE and it seems like maybe the work on some sick individual bent on raising HELL and bringing us all to BEDLAM ! Please check it out. |
Similar 4 Searches all returned %"Search String".exe File Size in the 17k mark these included Danger Mouse.exe Cosgrove Hall.exe Power Puff Girls.exe Chorlton and the wheelies.exe now unless you live in the UK Chorlton and the wheelies is going to mean nothing to you, the results included the spaces and capitalisation, all file sizes identical... So looks like finally someone has written a gnutella servant that takes the search and returns a query.exe and probably uploads a trojan... Oh Joy, Oh Joy Oh Joy. |
Old news Uhhh... I've seen this for a *long* time - Months and months back at least... Like you, I verified that it was sending back fake results, but in my case, I just did a search for "gfgdgfdgfds" and got gfgdgfdgfds.exe as a result. My worry now is that push requests (to firewalled hosts) might be intercepted and responded too. Check the file sizes on any exe's you download, and always virus scan them, and always run them first on a test machine you don't mind trashing/re-ghosting. |
