Why wont they play

I download some songs and when I transfer to my usb storage device and plug it into my alpine car stereo with some of the songs it says unknown or not supported when they are mp3's. When I put the same song on my mp3 player it plays with my head phones but when I connect it to my car again it says unknown or not supported why is this when my alpine can play mp3's, wma's, mp4's, etc. Please help its driving me crazy, and Thanks for your time
