Retrieving library from old computer.
 

I have been using Limewire for years but have never posted to the message boards, so please bear with me. I had to buy a new computer two months ago and it "died" before I could transfer anything to the new one. I assumed if I just logged into this site again all of the songs in my library would still appear, but NO.
Does anyone know if it possible to find them again without trying to download all of them again?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Files on the gnutella network are not stored on any server / site. Files are shared between users like yourself.

Do you have any idea what the problem with the old computer was? If the hard disk drive failed then you have problems. Generally drives gradually wear out ... and although might fail occasionally might still work on odd occasions, at least to get rebooted for long enough to recover 'some' personal files. It is possible to get professionals to recover a % of files from the drive for you, but that option is generally highly expensive.

what do you mean by 'died'?

if the hard drive is still viable (i.e. the OS went south) the files are recoverable....

what I would do is to hook up the old HDD to the new computer...this can be done by either putting it into an enclosure that modifies it to an external drive of either USB2 or a firewire connection (IEEE 1394), or by putting it physically into the new machine (assuming its a desktop) and hooking it up...your machine will not see it as anything but a data drive (i.e. it won't try to boot into it as an OS)...then its simply a matter of moving files off of the old HDD onto the new one...if the drive is working you can (and I would) leave it in the new machine....it might be a thing of its failing and will only work for a bit, then over heats and shuts down...if this is the case, then you will have the arduous process of transferring files, shutting down the machine to let the drive cool off, and repeating until all of the files are transferred...a trick is to put the failing drive into a good zip lock baggy and putting it in the freezer....take it out when cold and install it and pull files off...

Although this is too late for you, your recent experience has shown why it is always a good idea to have a CD/DVD backup of your important files.

Likewise, I have several external hard disk drives, perhaps 200 DVD-RW's (lol), and even more CD-RW's. Backing everything up on a regular basis is a wise move.

I even back up my LW preferences regularly. ;) Keeping multiple copies just in case a backup copy itself is corrupt.
