What free player works best? VLC - (click on link). VLC works for both audio & video files, & for video & audio streaming.

VLC is very good, but the free GOM player may be even beter.

I use CCCP Codec pack with Media Player Classic included. Probably does the same things the above ones do, but includes picture resolution/aspect ratio manipulation, using the numeric keypad. CCCP - Combined Community Codec Pack
Note: It's a video player, not a media library, so I would suggest something else for music. Personally I prefer Foobar2000. foobar2000
