Default New User--Reciept of Copyright Infringment from ISP

HELP----- My ISP sent me and email saying "They received a notification by a copyright owner, or its authorized agent, reporting an alleged infringement of one or more copyrighted works made on or over XXXXX's High-Speed Internet service (the 'Service'). The copyright owner has identified the Internet Protocol ('IP') address associated with your Service account at the time as the source of the infringing works. The works identified by the copyright owner in its notification are listed below. XXXXX reminds you that use of the Service (or any part of the Service) in any manner that constitutes an infringement of any copyrighted work is a violation of XXXXXX Acceptable Use Policy and may result in the suspension or termination of your Service account.
They had my IP address, downloaded song, date, etc. Are they going to shut of my service?? How do I go about getting around this or can I tell which songs are copyrighted??

Thanks for the help

Go see a solicitor/lawyer and/or promise your ISP that you will never do it again then delete all P2P apps from your computer.

And, I guess, get all those MP3s off your computer as well, best to be safe than sorry.

Don't jump overboard. From how I understand this, the letter/email came from your ISP and not some Anti-piracy (their terms for it not mine) agency. They weren't threatening to sue you or anything like that. They were threatening to terminate their contract with you.

If this is so, then do nothing. Just don't use Limewire to download/share copyright works anymore.

ISP's are pressured into sending these emails. Or forwarding them at least. I'd also recommend Sleepless' advice. No panic at all. Also, I'd suggest you stay away from the most recently released material for a while. Especially material such as vdeos that have not yet been released to dvd or music that's only just been released. The sponsored groups that deal with this have some government support that 'some' people voted parliamentarians in who support them. I hope you were not silly enough to vote for such a one & double check the attitudes & approach of the people you vote for in government. Vote "OUT" the people who are into the nazi approach of supporting the MPAA & RIAA, US Copyright Group, etc.

I got one of those letters from Comcast a few months ago.

The "works" involved in my offense was a movie that had just opened in US theatres and the copy I got was a CAM (recorded by camera in a movie theatre). Either of those two factors are enough to set off alarms with your ISP. I was specifically cited for seeding the video.

I stopped downloading altogether for a month. After that I resumed downloading but I make sure to avoid CAM copies and movies currently playing. I also stop seeding as soon as I have completed the download (unless it's a movie that is a few years old, something that is in the public domain, or things like foreign documentaries). I have not heard anything more from Comcast.

As LotR said, p-p filesharing, and Internet neutrality, will only get worse if we do not question our elected officials and get rid of those who support restrictions. The RIAA and MPAA have a Monsanto mentality.

You know Guys

My original "tongue in cheek" reply does seem over the top but I still believe for safety sake that tyoriggs should still delete his P2P app from his computer, which can still be re-installed at a later date, and that his MP3s should also be deleted, probably after burning them to CDs first.

You see, tyoriggs problem is that his P2P app is in default mode and, as such, is still seeding the gnutella network with the files he has downloaded. Now, unless he can find out how to switch off his P2P app's default seeding facility then every time he runs this app he will be inviting trouble.
