How did I get here?

Well, I got here when looking around for new music. I am not interested in abusing anyone's copyright power-let em sell what they want, but I also think that it should be possible to share, and if that goes on indefinitely, where's the rub?

I use Windows XP, have no idea who my client server is, or what it is.........I clicked here from a visit to Limewire, which is shut down, and I was redirected, but I have no idea what version of gnutella I'm using, or indeed if I am, since I just arrived to make this post.

My system is stuffed to the gills, and is pahritty slowwwwww. Got to get out the broom.

I have a DSL connection, but it's extenuated because I live in a rural area (all the more reason to connect over the internet).

Greetings ajnichols810,

Welcome to the Gnutella forums!

A client is a program that does something for you. LW is a client that connects you to other users who are also logged onto the Gnutella network, and thus enables you to share files. On your single home computer you have no server (and don't need one).

Are you sharing files? If so, what client (program) do you use? If you are looking for a client, we can suggest a few freebies.

Like most things involving computers, this all looks more complicated than it is.
