Hi Neal Welcome to the forum, I am also recently retired, caused by a combination of outsourcing and other economic factors. Anyway, I have a 4GB WinXP (SP3) PC (with Gygabyte Motherboad) and dual core Intel CPU. Hope you find the forum interesting and, when you are ready, ask any computer related questions or maybe put forward solutions to problems others may have. UK Bob |
Been busy today, yeah I know about the "reduction in force" once or twice for me and take a job or retire. I made the right decision, no regrets. This Acer works great, no major problems but sometimes the graphics starts to lag, so I need to buy a video card. I'm not a gamer. I need HDMI, not crossfire output, any suggestions? |
Video Cards Hi Neal Although I have bought and used a couple video cards in the past I wouldn't call myself an expert because, like you, I don't play games but I do watch YouTube and TV catchup videos. The only thing I can advise is that you check out the range of ATI video cards, here is a US link that may help: Amazon.com: All ATI Graphics Cards - ATI Technologies I have used a pre-installed 64MB ATI card, replaced it a 128MB card when the original failed, and bought a 256MB ATI card, which I gave away. Saying that, my primary usage was, and still is, text and word processing based. Hope you can select the video card you require. UK Bob |
Hello neal, I've been using ATI cards since '96. I bought a used 512 MB card 2-3 yrs ago, and still have no problems. Nowadays I'd buy a 1 GB card. In my town it's easy to find a good used card from a gamer who upgraded (that's how I got my last purchase). I, too, am semi-retired (teaching part-time). Also an ex-trooper - 11th U.S. Cavalry. |
