old Java, new Java

When I downloaded Lime Wire Pro, it also had me download Java RealTime Environment. Since then, other programs using Java applets don't work anymore. Specifically, I had a real-time Stock streamer from my on-line broker which will no longer function. It tells me to down load the Microsoft Virtual Machine to make the streamer work, but it doesn't work. I used my computer's "System Restore" function to go back in time to a configuration before Lime Wire, and then it works fine. When I download Lime Wire again, the streamer doesn't work. It just says waiting for applets to load - they never do. Any suggestions?

This, unfortunately, is due to Micro$oft's war with Sun. Microsoft don't like other people having any control of the internet (or anything else). This means that M$ are frequently incompatible with the standard for Java laid down by Sun.

It may be possible to run both versions of Java - you will have to modify the shortcuts of the programs that use Java to use the appropriate version - I haven't done this so can't really give advice on how easy it is.
