Question Installer error -1605

Hello,
Someoe ran the 2.5.5 installer on my system without removing 2.4.4. Limewire would then not connect. When I tried to uninstall it using the Control panel I had two entries, One for Limewire. And one for Limewire 2.4.4. Selecting either option would freeze the uninstaller even in safe mode.
I then deleted the Limewire directory and tried to re-install from the cnet download of 2.5.5.
The installer will now load but acts like the program is currently installed giving me the choice to modify, repair or remove.

All three choices give a response of Error -1605 This action is only valid for products that are currently installed.

I have already dumped the temp folder and limewire references I can find on my HDD. How do i reset the installer so that I can reinstall?
Or in simpler terms what are the manual uninstall steps for reinstallation?

I am running Win98SE on a AMD K622 500Mhz.

Thank you
Alan

Solution:
Delete completely the LimeWire installation directory.
Then open regedit and locate this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SOFTWARE
Microsoft
Windows
CurrentVersion
Uninstall

Look at the list of keys (folders) and delete all entries named "LimeWire" (possibly with a version number)

In the same key as above, locate the subkey named "InstallShield Uninstall Information"
Search for those keys (folders in the tree) like "{0D9AB36C-333D-4188-8BBD-CF8BF996512C}" whose content on the right pane indicate a "StatusText" string set to "LimeWire Setup is preparing..."
Note the value of this numeric key!
Delete this numeric key (select that folder and press Delete).

Then return to the top of the list of keys in the Uninstall key (folder), and search the numeric key.
Its content on the right pane should indicate a "DisplayName" string set to "LimeWire" (or "LimeWire Pro").
Delete that numeric key.

Close RegEdit.

Reinstall LimeWire: InstallShield should not give you the option to uninstall or repair the installation.

Please reinstall LimeWire in the exact same directory name as before you deleted it. This will avoid letting extra garbage in the Windows registry...

Hi,

Another option:

Try installing the international version of LimeWire which is available for download at: http://www.limewire.com/index.jsp/download

More information about installer problems is available from our recently updated FAQ at http://www.limewire.com/index.jsp/faqs
