Hmm that's your computer issue, something is broken in the software. I've done googling and MSI means MicroSoft Installer error, see http://www.appdeploy.com/faq/msi_errors/ and error 1603 http://www.appdeploy.com/faq/msi_err...tail.asp?id=11 Here is causes and possible solutions http://support.installshield.com/kb/...icleid=Q107182

Bonne chance

Zaggar April 17th, 2004 01:12 PM

thanks for the help, but it didnt work, NOTHING seems to work :( why cant Limewire use a simple install system, why does Limewire have to use the most rubbish things like Java and all this other rubbish!

et voilà April 17th, 2004 01:22 PM

Well if you find one day a solution, tell us here, it's difficult to reproduce that error on my mac, hahaha!
Temporary solution: use the other permorming gnet client: bearshare!

Bonne chance

Hey !
It works in the pereveming, too !!! :p

et voilà April 17th, 2004 01:48 PM

Héhéhé I meant performing... What's pereveming beside a funny sounding word? :D

ursula April 17th, 2004 02:01 PM

permorming - per morning

pereveming - per evening

I would do far better if I was paid, ya know !

:p

btw... Most interesting reading the change log on the latest LW beta...
And, interesting that you mention BS as when reading their change logs on the last several or more signalling releases they appear to be well [Edit]........

Solution

I had the exact same problem. To remedy it, I went into the system registry and removed all keys that seemed to be connected to LimeWire. Kind of a dicey solution, I know, but you just have to be careful to not remove anything important.

After that, the installation worked fine, like normal.

Good luck!

et voilà May 24th, 2004 05:39 AM

Merci sirdawg for letting us know a solution, now if you would explain how to remove what keys from the registry, that would be even more useful.

Merci:)

If you get MSI errors, try the international installer

I aslo had this problem. There is an installer cleanup utility that worked for me. Run the utility, then install again. Here's the link to get the utility.

error 1714 and error-1603

This link with the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility works wonders. Thanks.
This was exactly my problem: I keep getting these 2 error messages when I try to install either the limewire update or an all new limewire -
error 1714 (The older version cannot be removed. Consult your technical support group.)
error-1603 fatal error during installation. Consult windows installer help (Msi.chm) or MSDN for more info.

The cleanup thing dont work, neither does deleting all reg keys of LimeWire. And its not so easy having to download over 14MB to get the international installer on dialup.

buffylou June 5th, 2004 08:30 PM

error 1714 and 1603 msi error

After you downloaded the clean sweep, did you open it and find limewire in the list, and click on limewire and then click on remove?
I then restarted my pc and was able to download the newest version of limewire.

:D This worked like a charm. I was unable to remove the program using Start->CP->Add/Remove Programs, so I deleted it and then ran a registry cleaner--still no dice. I sent tech support a note, but who knows when that will get some love. This was great, and it fixed my problem completely. The upgraded version is humming away and I am very happy--you rock!

Lots of people hide hidden files. For people who have tried the other things, try this:

Go into Control Panel > Folder Options > View > Show hidden files and folders

Now select Start > Search > Now search for LimeWire and delete whatever comes up.

This should fix the problem, it fixed mine :)

(Those steps apply to XP Users; some steps may be different according to your operating system)

Good Luck!
