Default Limewire Installation Problem Java

Help. I am trying to install Limewire (free version) and I keep getting a error message which says.,
"Limewire was unable to load the Java Runtime Environment. Please download and install a newer version from http://java.com
I have Java 2 Runtime Environmemt SE V.1.4.2_05 installed which is obviously wirking as I use it in chatrooms without problems. Anyone any suggestions.

"Obviously", huh? You never know, so just go to www.java.com and dld and reinstall. You may have to uninstall your current Java.

X-BLACKRAT

I actually had to revert to Java 1.3.1_04 to get Limewire to work on my my XP machine. Now I run two versions - a newer version (1.4.1_04) for my browsers (which I couldn't get to work with Limewire) and 1.3.1_04 for Limewire. There are newer versions of Java out there but I thought about trying a newer release and then thought "if it ain't broke"

instead of using an older version of java, try the latest LimeWire beta.

I think that's Java 1.5 isn't it! It's supposed to have reasonable improvements but trap_jaw4 would know about that.

I have tried uninstalling and re installing Jave without result. I tried to find an earlier version of java but there is only 05 on the Sun Web site. When I search the web i can only find version 04 and that is bundled with netbeans (92.79mb) so thats no good. Where can i find an earlier version of java that i can install alone. Please help. I am ready to give Limewire up as a bad job. Thanks

X-BLACKRAT,

Before you try the older version did you try the beta version? To trap_jaw4's point there is a release since I had my problem. It might work well for you.

Second give this a whirl - go to control panel, open Java, select the browser tab and uncheck IE and Netscape. Reboot & try.

If you want the 1.3.1 version go here -

Good Luck,

Norm
