Java Problem with Windows XP

I've had Limewire 4.2.6 installed on my computer for a few months now and everything was running fine until I recently upgraded my Java software on my computer to Java version 1.4.2_06. Ever since then, when I try to open Limewire, I get the following error message:

Limewire Launcher Error
Limewire was unable to load the Java Runtime Environment. Please download and install a newer version from http://www.java.com.

I went to Java's site and there is no newer version. I then tried to uninstall and reinstall Limewire and the problem persists. Limewire's website even recommends that the version of Java I currently have as the correct version for using Limewire 4.2.6. I'm confused and I need help. Any support would be greatly appreciated.

It would help to know dto know which os version you're using. There is a later version but by the Sun company which has many improvements: Java 1.5 (take the JRE)

Apologies, I missed that! But then XP can mean sp1 or 2 which can make a significant difference. There are other options if you're interested or other things to try.

No need, i downloaded the version you linked me to and everything is fine now. I appreciate the help. I'm still not sure why it screwed up, but all I care about is that i can use limewire again. thanks again!

Dave and I have EXACTLY the same problem:

When I try to open Limeware Po on WinXP home edition, I get the same message Dave gets:

Limewire Launcher Error

Limewire was unable to load the Java Runtime Environment. Please download and install a newer version from http://www.java.com.

There is NO newer version. I've uninstall, reinstalled, totally uninstalled and redownloaded, reinstalled ... and the message is still there, ruining my life.

HELP!
We're drowning out here!!

Java 1.5 was the solution to their problem. This version is by Sun (a different site) & is different to the other by Blackwell which is version 1.4.2 (the link you gave) which is the brand most people use. 1.5 has everything 1.4.2 has but has improvements over 1.4.2 Instead use the link I gave earlier! ;)
