4.8.0 has the same finalization problem as earlier ones?

Well I have had fine installations before and nothing was wrong. I tried to install the newest and frooze after running the finishing box. I have tried to download from everysite and place I can think of. The freezing then stops everything and I have to do some magic to get my computre back. CAN ANYONE HELP! PLEASE!

(Pardon my english, not one of my stronger languages)

sberlin February 24th, 2005 08:21 AM

You can use the 'Other' download which will download a zipped version of LimeWire. It doesn't have any installation steps.

Israelities et Buddist February 24th, 2005 08:22 AM

UHHH OHHH! it doesnt work either!

Israelities et Buddist February 24th, 2005 08:38 AM

Well I geuss I am how you say screwed!

Where else did you try to download from? Have you checked your system thru with a maintenance check. Clean your Registry: if you don't have such a utility you can pick one up here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=34102

Download the newest version of Limewire (LW) & SAVE it to your hard disk drive! (DO not install over the net!) Now reboot your computer (a pain I know but just try it!) Now install LW. But don't have any other programs or net programs running whilst you're installing LW. It needs 100% of your CPU's concentration. If that doesn't work then do a SAFE Boot & try installing it then if possible.

Israelities et Buddist February 24th, 2005 08:57 AM

I will try that. thank you . I will check back with you on what happens

sberlin February 24th, 2005 09:31 AM

When you say the zip file didn't work, what exactly do you mean? There's nothing about it to not work. You download, unzip, and run.

Israelities et Buddist February 24th, 2005 09:48 AM

well, It just did not work. I unzipped it and did everything, but it did not run.

sberlin February 24th, 2005 10:40 AM

Can you explain what you mean by "did not run"? What, exactly, did you do to run LimeWire, and what, exactly, happened after you did it?

israelities te buddist February 24th, 2005 12:49 PM

well I open the extracted file and clicked the Icon and it worked the first time. Second time I tried nothing at all. I found older installation packets of Limewire and am running thAT for the time being. Before when they had the regular installion pack.

Lord of the Rings February 24th, 2005 12:51 PM

Do a search of your computer & tell us how many versions of LW you can find in your results.

Israelities et Buddist February 24th, 2005 02:26 PM

apparently two 4.0.8 and 4.2.6 but I know I have newer.

Israelities et Buddist February 27th, 2005 01:09 PM

sorry I havent been here but my internet was screwy. So far nothing has worked even after cleaning everything up! So maybe you could help again!

Lord of the Rings February 27th, 2005 04:24 PM

I don't think it's wise having more than one version of LW on the one computer. Unless perhaps they're under different user accounts, but still... It means that you could have 2 events of LW running or attempting to open simultaneously & are clashing with each other.

Also, jumping back to LW 4.0.8 from 4.2 or later could corrupt your preferences, particularly your download preferences; download.dat & bak. This happened to me.

May I suggest you get rid of these xtra versions of LW & delete your LW preferences folder; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire & also update your Java to 1.5

Israelities et Buddist February 27th, 2005 05:26 PM

ok will do

Israelities et Buddist March 2nd, 2005 06:23 PM

ok well it went further but now it is stuck on this stage:
“C:\Program Files\LimeWire\execNoWindow.exe” “C:\Program Files\LimeWire\unpack

and it says it is version 4.8.0 I thought it was 4.6.0, but this is not a big deal

fabion March 2nd, 2005 06:39 PM

Try the steps in my last post in this link, and see if that works. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=34329

Israelities et Buddist March 3rd, 2005 02:10 PM

Thanks I will keep you posted on the results!

Israelities et Buddist March 3rd, 2005 02:26 PM

two problems,
1) I have basic
2) I tried but it showed that there was no temp file running. I NEED HELP!!!! IVE GONE ALMOST A WEEK WiTHOUT IT; AND I AM BEGINING TO MISS IT!

Israelities et Buddist March 3rd, 2005 03:33 PM

ok I dont think I mentioned that I am running XP. It also shows that its version 4.8.0 running not 4.6.0...

Israelities et Buddist March 6th, 2005 06:45 AM

I see you have all given up on me. Oh well I geuss no limewire for me.

fabion March 6th, 2005 07:46 AM

Well we haven't given up, we are just trying to think of ways to help that are useful.

My suggestion is uninstall LineWire. After you uninstall check your system to make sure you don't have any other instances of LimeWire present.

Download LimeWire to your desktop and install from this link. http://www.limewire.com/english/cont...loadfree.shtml

Dis-regard what the page says it is really version 4.8.0, the page just hasn't been updated to reflect that.

Let us know what happens.

Thank you

Israelities et Buddist March 6th, 2005 08:18 AM

it gets stuck on this.“C:\Program Files\LimeWire\execNoWindow.exe” “C:\Program Files\LimeWire\unpack

which is the same as before.
*pulls hair out*

But thanks for helping anyway. Ill just reside myslef to the idea of not having my favorite program. (forgive my spelling)

Israelities et Buddist March 6th, 2005 10:13 AM

yes, but the ones that I open up from the search show, that you cant. I am not sure what you mean by registry ones, I dont know the english names very well. How would I search this "Registry".

Israelities et Buddist March 6th, 2005 10:38 AM

Nevermind, online dictionaries helped and all files with the name of limewire are wiped off my computer including registry.

Should I try to reinstall.

Israelities et Buddist March 6th, 2005 02:35 PM

what do you know, luck just isnt good enough. Without any files containing limewire on my computer it still gets stuck on the same spot.

Israelities et Buddist March 6th, 2005 03:14 PM

I may have gotten it to work as long as when I move the icon it still works.

Israelities et Buddist March 6th, 2005 03:30 PM

well I can get it work. the only problem is I must open program files to run it. which is ok.... its just a pain. any suggestions?

but still everyone deserves hug, so therefore hugs everyone who helped.

fabion March 6th, 2005 03:48 PM

Hmmm Try deleting the icon or drag it to the recylce bin and trash it.

Where you go to program files and start LW, try doing a single right mouse click --- this should open a window --- one of the options should be --- create shortcut to desktop.

Try that. It will create a new short cut icon on your desktop with a link to the program file.

Israelities et Buddist March 6th, 2005 04:06 PM

*HUGS* Thank you, have you heard of internet acting up because of Limewire? Because it seems like since I got it to work , my internet has been flakey.

fabion March 6th, 2005 04:50 PM

What do you mean by flakey.

Not sure but some Internet Service providers do block or filter p2p applications. You have not provided who you use.

Have you properly configured your firewalls to allow LimeWire full access.

Would you please provide the following information.

Firewalls
Modem type & model no.
Router type & model no.
Connection (Dialup,ADSL,DSL,Cable)
Who your ISP is.

Thank you.

Israelities et Buddist March 6th, 2005 05:08 PM

well it stops dead in its tracks, and the connection is lost.

Norton firewalls and windows sp2 firewall at least on this comp.
I use firefox
I have a motorola surfboard cable modem
I use a Linksys router for wireless internet
Road RUnner.

Lord of the Rings March 6th, 2005 05:59 PM

Did you configure your Norton firewall for LW's access: Configuring Norton Internet Security & also your XP firewall: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml I've read where it's not recommended to run 2 firewalls & particularly Norton with XP.

Israelities et Buddist March 6th, 2005 06:03 PM

oh I tought I did. maybe I didnt. Oh well it seems like the connection just stops and the only way to gain it back is by closing the connection then restarting.

Lord of the Rings March 6th, 2005 06:14 PM

By gads this is a long thread, it's becoming a novel. Are you using a usb modem? If you have an ehternet option that would be better if you have an ethernet card on our computer. usb can be unreliable as it sucks both power from your comp., & also cpu processing power.

Israelities et Buddist March 7th, 2005 04:03 PM

well now you havent been to someother forums have you. 3 is mini.

I have AMD and I use wireless internet from the surfboard modem to the wireless router.

Well I geuss it isnt any firewalls since they both are on allow everything having to do with LW.

sberlin March 7th, 2005 07:23 PM

If the folks that have the 'freezes during finishing installation' problem can contact me at sberlin@limepeer.com , we're going to see if we can figure out once and for all what's causing this problem.

Thanks.
