I have the exact same problem. LimeWire crapped out while trying to upgrade to 4.6.

I have:

Uninstalled
deleted .limewire folder
Updated Java to 1.5
set javaw.exe and limewire.exe to full access in firewall
Made sure port 6346 was forwarded to computer running limewire

None of this has helped. It still hangs up there. I cannot even kill the task or restart computer. I have to reset the computer manually.

I have had the same problems. I've tried as many 'solutions' in this forum that I can find. NONE have worked. Limewire was working just fine until I tried upgrading to the POC version 4.6.0. I'm almost ready to jump off a bridge here. Argh!

I don't quite understand the 1st post, it doesn't seem to ask anything. I unticked that option for myself. I don't want LW to open everytime I start the computer (I think that's what it's asking but could be wrong.) In any case, you can always go back & change the option later under both Tools>Options>Connection & Tools>Options>Advanced>System Startup

If you still have problems then there is an alternative installer I think. You just unzip it & use it. See Here about other version. http://www.limewire.com/english/cont...loadfree.shtml

Still wont work. this is so annoying i think its got something to do with the firewall maybe? when i click next what is the next thing i should be seeing?

When you say "LimeWire crapped out", what do you mean? What exactly does LimeWire do?

sberlin March 1st, 2005 01:50 PM

Oh, nevermind -- misread the first post.

Can you download LimeWireDebug.exe from here and place it in your C:\Program Files\LimeWire directory. Then start LimeWire by double-clicking on that. What does it say on the DOS-box when LimeWire closes?

(If the box closes too quickly, start it by going to Start -> Run, and type "cmd", then type: "cd C:\Program Files\LimeWire", and finally type "LimeWireDebug.exe".)

What firewalls & antivirus & antispy, etc utilities do you have?

That window I thought was the 1st of setting up your preferences. Is this the 1st time you've used LW?

I'm about to try out the new version but it could take a while. If I don't get that window then I'll need to delete my prefs & re-install, etc.

Oh I didn't see SBerlin's post there.

I installed LW 4.8 without issue. Admittently I rebooted after shutting down the previous version of LW before installing. I also delted preferences. You are apparently just half way thru setting up your option settings for LW after the installation. There's still another window of options (re: firewalls) & then the finish window see below: (I wonder if it has something to do with your firewall & anti-virus settings, etc.)

Greetings

What version of windows are you running?

Also have you closed all programs before attempting to install.

If you are attempting to install from the internet, might I suggest you d/l the installer to your desktop, and install after you have closed all other applications that are running.

I installed LW pro 4.8.0 last night without incident.

I did have one minor incident, when attempting to run the 1st and 2nd time, But I believe that was related to my system, as LimeWire did start and connect okay.

You can read my post in the LimeWire Beta Forum under LW 4.8.0, for how I resloved that problem.

Just a thought.

Did you follow the steps in the parenthesis?

NRG March 2nd, 2005 06:17 AM

yes, does any 1 know where i can download the previous version of LW?? that worked fine

Lord of the Rings March 2nd, 2005 07:20 AM

It'd be good to sort out the problem but, HERE (click on link) you can find some older ones. Did you run the debug program to find out the reason?

NRG March 2nd, 2005 08:11 AM

Ys i did that debug thing nothin came up,

u cant download any previous versions of lw on that link???

Lord of the Rings March 15th, 2005 03:13 PM

Hey NRG did you get your problem sorted out? LW continuously changes that previous versions page. Unfortunately LW makes many of the older versions of LW unavailable for various reasons such as security problems or due to the earlier versions not being healthy for the present Gnutella network. All (most) Gnutella developers try to work together to develop responsible programs that don't cause problems with the network. I did find this but it's not recommended.

This sound similar to my issue

Hi All, I have been using Limewire for a couple of year now with no issues. This is the first time I have posted though as is the first time I have had an issue. Below I have copied the quiery I sent to Limewire techs (just in case someone outside of Limewire knows a solution). I have tried all of the solutions suggested, but still no joy. I need Limewire working as I am a phD English/Media Studies student and use to access rare or unavail movies in Aust. Details below:

email 13/05/08

"Upgraded Microsoft Office to 2007 (ultimate = Word 2007, Access 2007, Powerpoint 2007, Office Groove 2007, Office Excel 2007, Onenote, Infopath, Publisher etc...) as part of a university upgrade so I could use Microsoft Powerpoint 2007. After dowloading this upgrade (and paying for it) from the university's IT site (so should be OK virus wise), Limewire no longer worked. If I click on the limewire icon on the desktop the green startup box would appear, then it would display 12% "loading HTML engine" at the bottom of the green box and open up the "setup wizard" 'grey' screen. The "save folder" is set to C:Documents and SettingsUSERMy DocumentsLimewireSaved. The "shared folders" is set to C:Documents and SettingsUSERMy DocumentsLimewireShared (tick box ticked). The "Next" button is highlighted at the bottom of this screen. If I click on "Next" the screen moves on to "Miscullaneous Settings" and then this screen shuts down after 0.5secs.

Up until the Office 2007 upgrade I performed on 11/05/2008, Limewire had been working excellently with Office 2004 and it's various components (ie Word 2004). This version did not have Powerpoint, Infopath, Publisher, Onenote.

Could it be that these extra features of Office 2007 are interfering with LimewirePro? I have spent days working through all the fixes on the Limewire Forum. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and checked my exceptions in my virus scanners (CA, VET) and checked my windows firewall to ensure Limewire is set as an exception.

I am now frustrated. Please help me as I use your program to find rare movies for my film studies at uni so I need to have this fixed ASAP please.

Thankyou in anticipation

email today

"Hi,

Further to the issue I have already posted to you on 13/05/2008, the following also occurs.

Upon PC startup, the limewire setup page will load ie the first 'grey' page of the setup wizard will be on the desktop. If I click on "NEXT" button then moves onto the "Miscellaneous Settings" screen. I attempt to click on the "Next" button in this screen but it shuts down before I can do so (very quickly).

I am no computer wizard but I am very methodical/logical (research student). If I took a guess at the issue I would say that (Windows? or a function of it) is somehow realising that it doesn't like LimeWire after a few seconds (perhaps moving to the "Miscellaneous Settings" screen 'triggers' this response)? I can't think of any reason as to why Limewire worked fine before and now will not. The only change was the download of Office 2007 (Ultimate). Surely Office 2007 does not contain any firewall features or security features? The operating system has remained the same as Windows XP.
The only other possability was that my LimeWire dowlaod page was corrupted, but that seems a long shot as I tried to download LimeWire Beta but that experienced the same issues, so I have re-downloaded 4.16.7. I have also updated Java to the latest version avail.

I guess the big question to resolve is: Why is the setup wizard shutting down on the "Miscellaneous Settings" screen? Is it a LimeWire setup issue or a Windows/Word/CPU issue? I have scanned for viruses using CA (VET) Antivirus, Spybot Search & Destroy, Window Washer and have run RegCure to check the registeries. There are no error messages.

Please help me ASAP as I use Limewire to download unavailable in Aust movies for media studies at uni.

Thanks

Any Takers?

Cheers!

UPDATE...UPDATE..UPDATE!! Very Important

Updating my post (to help others with this issue hopefully).

Uninstalled Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate and now Limewire 4.16.7 works just fine!!?? I was able to complete the setup and all looks good.:)

So..... what the fig is going on with Office 2007 that is is having a "domestic" with LimeWire?

My methodical approach will be to download the various components of Office 2007 sperately (ie one-at -a-time) and try to see which one stuffs up LimeWire. :xeri_ok1ani:

Will keep on updating as I discover more.

Bye for now,
Jimbo

Problem Solved!! Hoozah!! (very important-read this please)

:yahoo:

Via methodical troubleshooting I have worked out the cause of the "shutdown" on the set-up screen.

Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 includes a number of "innovative" (read idiotic) features, which are of no use to the 'avergage Joe' but possibly of great time-wasting value to Executives. I refer to programs like Infopath, Onenote, publisher, visio viewer and my personal favourite GROOVE.

Whatever the hell GROOVE is, or does, it is not very 'Groovy' for your LimeWire.

Unless you are going to suffer cardiac arrest in their abscence, deactivate these 'executive features' especially GROOVE which is the cause of the shutdown issue during set-up of LimeWire.

To do this, go to Start ->Control Panel ->Add/Remove Programs. Select Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 and click on the "Change" button. You then go to a blue screen with the option to "Add or Remove Features" (pick this option). You will then see a list of the programs within Office 2007. Click on the "down arrow" (in a box with a picture of a hard drive) that has the GROOVE name on it. Then choose "not available" from the list. A red cross should now appear in the box with the hard drive picture on it next to GROOVE. Click on the "continue" button (bottom right). The screen may flicker a bit or it may say you need to reboot for updates to take effect - this is OK (click reboot or let it do it's thing for a bit). The feature (GROOVE) should now be deactivated.

and........ You will now be able to set-up/run Limewire.

Worked for me (I also disabled the other 'executive' features I will never use like infopath & onenote etc..)! :w00t:

PS: Moderators may like to edit this post and/or make a sticky to help other unforunates like me.

Cheers All! I'm off to download.

Jimbo
