click to open and nothing happens

i've asked for help in the connections forum but no luck. i had the newest version of limewire 4.8.0 and when i clicked on the icon, start menu icon or the main folder icon the little hour glass pops up like it's going to open but then does nothing. i deleted the .limewire file, i tried uninstalling and reinstalling tons of times and before when i ran the 4.6.0 version everything was perfectly fine..now that i downgraded back to 4.6.0 it doesn't work either.

i'm running on windows xp home edition, mobile amd athlon xp 2400+ 1.7ghz processor, 512mb ram and plenty of hard drive space left on a 60gb hard drive. i use norton systemworks 2005 which includes norton antivirus 2005 and i use webroot spysweeper ver. 3.2.0. my firewall is disabled but when it is enabled it allows limewire.

anyone think they can help me out?

Did you configure your firewalls for LW? Configuring Norton Internet Security & http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

Go to the program folder & open the program directly.

Try using the old version of java. It may have updated when you installed the new versio of LimeWire. It's seems some machines work better with the older version.

Don't forget to remove both the J2SE devolpment kit along with the J2SE Runtime. The updated version is 1.5.0_01. There is a link to the prevision java version here. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...hreadid=34661.

There also have been some problems with the New ATI drivers for the Radeon series video cards(Display adapters). One member resolved the problem by rolling back to the previous version of the drivers.

Let us now what happens, and good luck

LotR beat me to the button.

yes i had already done the 2nd link and the first link for NIS does me no good cuz i don't have that version of norton i have norton systemworks that include NAV2005.. it's different. there's no personal firewall on it the only firewall i have on my computer is the one for my wireless cable network which is disabled anyway but i configured it to allow limewire anyway.

By the way did you see the post about Norton IS 2005 at the bottom of the above link about config norton? It leads onto a thread what describes how.

You are unlikely to have the development version of Java, it's very large. Some of your browsers may require Java 1.3. But all the same, uninstall it using add/remove programs control panel & install the new version. Also delete your LW Prefs folder; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire

Oh my dear you are running an old version of Java.

I would uninstall that version from the --- add or remove programs in control panel.

I would then udate to the newest version. I mentioned above.
Here is a link. http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp.
