Unspecified Error Message

After downloading the newest version of Limewire (this is my first time to have Limewire), I try to open it from the desktop and i get an error message:

LimeWire has encountered a fatal internal error and will now exit. This is generally caused by a corrupt installation. Please try downloading and installing Limewire again.

Then I click review and get this message:

LimeWire version 4.8.0
Java version 1.5.0_01 from Sun Microsystems Inc.
Windows XP v. 5.1 on x86
Free/total memory: 781328/5746688

I downloaded the newest Java and that didn't help. I also tried to download the file from www.download.com and by clicking "Others" instead of Windows when choosing how to install. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.l

Hi coopman06,

We know of this bug, but have not been able to reproduce it or figure out why it's happening. We're going to continue looking into it, but until then, I'm not sure what to do. Try downloading the latest video drivers for your video card, making sure Windows is updated fully, and follow some other suggestions on this forum (about deleting deleting a ".limewire" folder).

All right. Thanks for your help. I'll keep checking back here to try and figure it out myself, though i don't know how far I will get. Thanks again.

I just was able to make Limewire work. For future reference for anyone else having this problem, I first deleted the ".limewire" file folder. Then I changed the compatibility settings by right-clicking the Limewire icon and going to properties and change compatability setting to Windows 2000. (but only if you're using Windows 2000 or later.)
Thanks again...
