installation

I just upgraded to limewire 4.6.0 and downloaded ok, and an icon was put on my desktop, but i'm not able to instal it. Everytime I try to install it is says "limewire cannot create uninstall information. Installation will now exit" I have deleted it from my desktop and re-downloaded it, but it does the same thing. If anyone know how to help me please reply!

Re-booting can often solve it. If your previous version is still there then see if you can find an uninstaller for it in its own folder. Which version did you have before 4.6? If it was earlier than 4.4 than you should go to Add/Remove programs control panel & remove it.

After that if you're still having problems then there is an alternative installer. You just unzip it & use it. See Here about other version. Downld the 'Other' installer.

The 4.8.0 version is out.
4.8.1 even.

Well, I don't know what limewire I had before, but I did go to add/remove and removed 1 of them that was there, but it said it was 0.0 kb (whatever units) so I don't think that was it, but i will try and reboot next.

Ok, I rebooted my system, and it DID allow me to continue with installing, but now it is "frozen" on the "downloading java runtime environment.7z"
what do i do now?

Is it downloading the file?

hoppyswim March 13th, 2005 06:37 PM

Yes, I think it is downloading. I save it and the icon is on my desktop. When i double click it, it pops up asking the language and says to hit "yes" to install. I hit yes, but then it says that "LimeWire cannot creat uninstall information. Installation will now exit" And that's all it does! This is so frustrating. I tried to remove the program, but it isn't even listed! NOW WHAT?!

Lord of the Rings March 13th, 2005 06:44 PM

It hasn't yet installed! Besides if you're using the zip version I don't think there is any installation. Just the setting up of your preferences before you start. If it is the installer, then that question refers to which language you want the installation process to be in. So thus, it hasn't installed yet.

2 ideas: 1. Delete your previous LW preferences folder; instructions: Fixes for Limewire

Search your computer to make sure there's no previous versions of LW.

2. Use a Registry Cleaner. If you don't have one you can find a link here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...232#post121232
